Watermelon

Just bought our first watermelon of the season. It's always a cr@pshoot buying one, especially this early in the season, but BINGO! it is a winner. Crisp and sweet and juicy. I've been spearing chunks of it all afternoon. Mmmmmm.....

My husband is very good at picking out the best available watermelon in the box or stand. It seems nowadays there aren’t as many good ones. Farmers are in a rush to get them to market.

My partner loves watermelon
and is great at picking out good ones. He can eat 1/2 a watermelon in one sitting.

We had our first one last week. It was not a winner!
I’ll wait a couple of weeks and try again. Or hold out for a South Carolina grown melon.

I always liked my Uncle's take on watermelon, its a good thing to give up for Lent. Out of season and not my favorite anyway...

I knew a farmer who was having trouble with someone stealing watermelons from his field. So he put up a sign that said "Warning one watermelon in this patch has been poisoned". The next morning the one had been crossed out and changed to a two...

Yesterday here in Toronto, we were grocery shopping at a Loblaw's store, and they had GIANT water melons on sale for $12.99. They were so big that many people could not lift them out of the bin on the floor. Product of Mexico. Smaller ones from Ecuador were $9.99. JimB.
