We had a lot of gunfire in our area last night

Around 9:30 last night we had a fairly significant gun fight take place less than a half mile up the road. We were reading in the sunroom when it started with one large shot that might have been a shotgun and then quite a few shots from something smaller like a 38 caliber. This exchange continued and then sirens and more shots. Then a brief lul followed by more sirens. Then lot more gunfire including a full automatic weapon that must have fired at least 20 rounds. That ended the gunfire. Then lots more sirens with a slightly different pitch, which I am guessing we're ambulances.

This morning when my wife drove the dogs to the walking park, the road was blocked off completely. She could see that a lot of police activity was taking place before she got to the detour.

There is nothing in the newspaper this morning so we have no idea how bad it was yet.

The online news covered an earlier gunfight with the police that took place a few hours earlier and was located about three miles to the South of us. Two people were killed in that one.

What the devil is going on these days? This used to be a quiet town.

Too close for comfort! Keep safe, Pecos.

Sounds like a war-zone! Innocent passers-by often get hit accidently, so you must be worried every time you leave the house. The situation in Britain is getting worse. I think we have too many immigrants who have brought their personal vendettas with them.

So happy to know you're alright.

Society has truly lost it's way.

If that happened where we live, we definitely want to move. Believe it or not, there are small cities and towns in America that don't have these gunfights. Note the word "small". We rent an apartment, so it's much easier than trying to sell a house.

Living where we are, for a year now, 99% of the time, the only sirens we hear is from Fire or local ambulance service.

Yeah, the curious sometimes come a runnin' to the action
Best let the dust settle

Stay safe, Pecos
Let the authorities do their job
Oh, we did. If it were not for all the trees and houses, we would have retreated into the interior of our brick house. Our sunroom does have glass that is supposed to be bullet proof, but doing a live fire test is not a good idea. If that gunfire had been any closer we would have been huddled in the interior main bathroom.

I can't imagine having to live with this kind of thing.......how scared you and so many others must have been.
Please stay safe.
Think someone needs to click on the delete, so these happenings in this world seizes to happen.

Yeah.....it's always those damn foreigners. Which ones are your "favorites?"

I'm hoping, Pecos, for the sake of you and your wife and everyone around you, the two that were reported to be killed, were the culprits related to all the shooting.
I expect that our local news "rag" will have a headline tomorrow. For now, no info is available. Given given that the shooting stopped after the police used the automatic weapon I suppect that the culprits were killed or seriously injured.

I hope and pray it's the last occurrence you'll have to experience.

No place is immune in today's world.

looks like you are right.

there was a shooting in my old community I grew up in last week.. I lived there 51 years and this is the first shooting I ever recall hearing about. At 6am a guy was heading out for work, there was a car blocking his driveway. he asked them to move. the person got out the car and shot the guy in the stomach. Non life threatening wounds the paper said.. .

This may sound a bit harsh, but here goes...

[start of rant]
As far as I am concern, when a civilian pulls a weapon on another (except in the case of self-defense), I feel that that person has declared war on our society and ought to be responded to as such. In other words, that civilian ought to expect to be killed. I believe the same holds true for rioting and looting (but not peaceful protests). Why should such a thing be considered any different than any other act of war or terrorism?
[end of rant]

That is a very scary thing the OP experienced, and none of us in a society should have to experience such a thing during peacetime. Something is really broken in our society when these occurrences are becoming all too frequent.
