We watched the Perseid meteor shower

The Perseid meteor shower peaked last night and into the wee hours of this morning.

We drove out to Folsom to watch it from the hills near the lake. My grandson came with, and brought his telescope, but it was quite visible without it, too.

We saw dozens of shooting stars and 3 or 4 pretty good sized fireballs. My grandson's telescope can take pictures and he got several cool shots.

Our electricity went out while we were gone, so I had to prime the HOB filter on the aquarium when we got home. According to the electric clock, it was only out for several minutes, so the fish are fine and so's the HOB motor. I should probly get a battery back-up system, though.

I wonder if the outage had something to do with the meteor shower. Probably a coincidence, right?

Saw one really bright one at 5:05 am MDT. The skies were extremely clear and no moon yet.

Yeah, it was really clear here, too, and just a sliver of the moon.

I was only able to see it once, in WEST Berlin. Shows you that was a long time ago!

I was very excited about it, considering we're on top of a mountain this week. Nope, socked in solid with clouds all night. Bummer.

Watched it last Saturday & Sunday, out here in the countryside with no city/suburb street or home lighting making the firmament hard to see. Just dark punctuated with millions of stars, and the meteors. Watched the streaks with my wife & daughter. Pretty thrilling, especially on Saturday. Enjoyed it a lot!

I'm early to bed and late to rise, so viewing the meteor showers are somewhat problematic.

Years ago, watched the meteor showers while sitting in our van, parked in the driveway .. all alone at 4 a.m.
It was awesome.
