Weather Instruments for home

With a hurricane (Irma) breathing down on us I'm wishing I had one of those wind speed weather stations at our house. Anybody got experience with one and would like to share?

I had a Davis Instrument Wireless Vantage pro. Pretty much the Cadillac of home weather stations. I am kind of a nerd so I liked it. Almost a grand, collected wind speed, temperature, humidity, rainfall, and lightening detector.

Way to much data. Neighbors steers got out and took down my tower, crashing my equipment.

I now have a much more appropriately priced (about250) ACURITE 5in1. Collects much the same data and transmits it to my computer and the net.
Here is a link if it works: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KNYOVID5

Amazon has multiple 5in1's looks like $180.00 is highest price. I could mount it on horse stall, 100' +/- from house and patio screen and door between. Would signal penatrate do you think?

Mine is about 200 ft from the house. Direct line of sight one wall. I have an excellent signal. Yes that is a link to my readings. You can probably do a search on the Wunderground site for your locality. Surely there is someone in your proximity that has a station.

The ACURITE is about as simple plug and play as you can get. Officially stations are supposed to be mounted at about 30', My Davis was able to mount that way, not practible for the ACURITE as you need access to change batteries.

At the bottom of the Wunderground page is a link about weather stations useful and links to various manufactureres

My fridge is NOT having a good time. I came home with more frozen dinners. Apparently my fridge is one of those transgenders. It decided to make the change. It was cooking all my frozen food. And as an oven,it was doing a good job. But I had to "pull the plug". That's the first time it was moved in 25 years. Not a pretty sight. I bought it when Jimmy Carter was President, so it gave me a long run. Thanks old buddy.

My first refrigerator was a 1952 International Harvester refrigerator that we bought from another military family in Turkey in 1969. According to the shipping stickers on the back, it had been in Germany, Italy, Germany again, Italy again, Germany for a third time and then Turkey. We shipped it home (free, why not) and used it for a while and then gave it to my dad to use as a beer fridge out in the garage. It was over 26 years old when he gave it away to some college boys. I doubt anything built today is going to last that long.

Wrong thread ??

I can not justify putting out the $$$ for a weather station when we have so many apps/tv and the internet to tell me what is going on..
