We went to California to be able to celebrate our Granddaughters graduation! Obviously our phones were off during the flight, and upon touchdown and powering up our phones, I discovered a message from my son. "Mom. I have covid!" Well.
That certainly changes things!
He was so apologetic, so remorseful, but really, what could he do? He's a first responder (Captain of his fire station) so this is always a threat! He had covid once before, very early. Nothing since. But here we are. He offered to find us another flight without us ever leaving the airport, directly back to Nashville. He said no one else in the family had tested positive (4 teen kids and a wife) He was kinda at his wits end and said he'd do whatever would make us the most comfortable, given that we're both seniors and Ron has a compromised respiratory system. I felt SO BAD for him!!
Money isn't a problem for him, so I asked him how he'd feel about putting us up at a hotel close by, so that we could still spend the week attending the our granddaughter's graduation, visiting at a distance, and generally making the most of a bad situation. He was totally down with that, so he booked rooms for us at the Hilton that was just a couple miles from his house, and we spent the week visiting at a distance, on opposite sides of his pool, swimming and hanging out and having some lovely meals on his patio, appropriately distanced.
Ultimately Corey, his wife Mayra, and two of his 4 kids tested positive while we were there. We took appropriate precautions, tested every day, and we're now 12 days out from initial contagion and we're still testing negative. CDC guidelines suggest we're now fine.
It was certainly a different kind of vacation. My personal biggest issue was that I couldn't hug my son and DIL and grands! That was the most difficult for me!! Regardless, we had a very relaxing, distanced, but lovely vacation!
I'll post pictures in the next post!
