Well, time for me to start that journey.

Hey folks,

I will be signing up for Medicare next year and am having to learn all the ends and outs of senior living.
Wife and I were able to retire a wee bit early. Spent the first part of it caring for parents on the final leg of their voyage.

Kids are grown and out on their own and doing well, so no stress there.

Just the wife, me and two felines.

Was hoping that Mr. Buffett would be around a bit longer to help me adjust to this season.

Been down that road, last year. Signing up wasn't really hard, neither was getting supplemental insurance.

The trick is, once you get your "red, white, and blue" card, find someone who deals with this stuff. (an insurance broker, etc) We have a great guy.....he knew all of the right questions to ask, and then laid out the options that were best for me.

Good luck!

Thanks for the warm greetings.
We are using a broker that specializes in health insurance and have used him for a few years now.

I am looking at a Plan G MediGap by AARP/UHC that offers gym membership, dental and vision discounts.
I'm in good shape dental wise and if I can save the premium of a separate dental policy and apply that towards a better MediGap I think I will be better served.

I don't care to jog or do other high impact type exercises as my knees and hips don't do well with that. I love to swim and still am an active scuba diver. I can haul my own gear just fine but struggle when having to surface swim to locations or back to shore. This is why I'm wanting the gym membership as we have several in our area with indoor pools. Swimming for me has always been the best total body workout.

I will probably join AARP to get the UHC MediGap Plan G Supplement. I need to browse the related forum and see if folks have offered up their opinion of this product. My state allows you switch carriers of these plans annually on your birthday, so it isn't like I'm locked in long term with any one company.

Again, thanks for the welcome.

Good luck with your health insurance stuff. Medicare is pretty easy and we picked up an Advantage plan easily too - you're on the right track. I'm sure your insurance Rep will be helpful!

We looked into the dental and there are NO DENTISTS within 50 miles that will take Medicare! I've talked to friends & relatives across the country - pretty much no dentist will take it. We are lucky enough to still have Delta Dental Insur. through my husband's last employer. When he retired, Delta sent us a bill in July, when it was time to re-up. I paid it and they've sent on every year since! (We pay Tennessee rates even though we live in Maine - $300-$400/year cheaper). As for eye care - again NO Doctor takes medicare HOWEVER, if the procedure is "medical" they will bill medicare first. We both just had cataract surgery. Medicare stepped up.

ENJOY your new retirement!!

I have had plan G and part D through AARP/UHC for a couple years and no troubles whatsoever. The gym membership is also a good feature. I live only three blocks from a gym on their list and even printed out the active confirmation code. Still haven’t made it there yet! I am an outdoors exercise person at heart.

I don’t know much about dental and vision. It was offered free through my government retirement so signed up.

Regular Medicare doesn’t provide dental or vision care. You have to buy a separate rider if you want it. People here that are on advantage plans say no doctors will take Medicare and it’s not true. Every doctor takes it.

I just listed many of the reasons on another thread about the number of problems with advantage plans. They are free or cheap for a reason and cost some people their lives.

Learning more day by day. I have quite a bit of time before I have to sign up for a Plan G and D so I can review them all pretty well.
