A 'woke' list of banned words for more than 30,000 civil servants drawn up by the Welsh Government has been slammed as a 'bonkers misuse of public money' by a devolved administration which has 'well and truly lost the plot'.

The 'do not use' list of politically-correct words and phrases which include - 'Brexit' and 'HM Government' is in an official A-to-Z guide compiled by the Labour-run Welsh Government for staff which has been funded by the taxpayer.

And workers are puzzled by some of exclusions in the 'Style Guide' updated on December 20 - with more rules laid down in Cardiff than in the Westminster guide for civil servants over the border in England.

One civil servant said: 'Some of these rules are ridiculous - they are just words and phrases used everyday by ordinary people.

'It is a massive A-Z but the only one missing is W for woke. It is just getting so nit-picking, well if I was allowed to say that.'

Andrew RT Davies, the Welsh Conservative Senedd leader, said the Welsh government had 'well and truly lost the plot' according to The Times.
He said: 'Only last week we had ministers cancelling 'women' from sex education in Wales, and now they're consigning Brexit and Her Majesty to the political correctness bin.

'It's a bonkers misuse of public money and a complete and utter waste of time. Civil servants who are just looking to get on with their day job shouldn't be subjected to such nonsense.

'And to be frank, the Labour Welsh government has much more important things it should be tackling, such as the chronic problems in our NHS, and our crumbling road infrastructure, which continues to serve as a national embarrassment.

Holly, perhaps the Welsh Assembly prefer the wording in Welsh. ;)

Holly, considering that 99% of Welsh people speak English and only 19% speak Welsh, I think the Welsh Assembly have a barefaced cheek in banning those words without first seeking the permission of the Welsh people.

I wonder what the reaction would be by the Welsh Assembly, if HM Goverment suddenly proclaimed that they no longer recognised anything that the Welsh Assembly had put into law.

Just my two penneth. 😊

I've been noticing this in U.S. for a long time..

“These words are harmful to students and to all individuals in American society,” a spokesperson for the Department of Education reportedly said.
Fearing that certain words and topics brainwash students and make them feel “uncomfortable”, education officials are demanding that over 50 words be removed from classrooms across America. The changes must be in effect by September, 2012 or else offending schools will face heavy penalties.
The word “dinosaur” made the hit list because dinosaurs suggest evolution which creationists might not like. “Halloween” is targeted because it suggests paganism; a “birthday” might not be happy to all because it isn’t celebrated by Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Republican” is banned because it is associated with “dissent” and “obstruction”, according to Department of Education sources.
Words that suggest wealth are excluded because they could make kids jealous. “Poverty” is also on the forbidden list.

There's always an inane list of this or that. but I've never actually seen a true list of whatever. Everyone is all upset. It's horrible, horrible. It's always some newspaper/tv report. Why is it that the official government document is never available? Where is the actual, true, real list of banned words from a government department, as an official government document, and not some rantings of an irate minor elected office holder., or ploys of some political committee.
I can report that the UK is selling Wales to the Martians, and it's in all the papers/TV, but coming up with a copy of the deed is a problem.

hollydolly, I'm an American, so I'm not familiar with the UK government. I tried to google the missive. Outside of volumes of newspaper/TV stories, I could find no official Welsh government banned word list. It tried the Welsh government-Home | GOV.WALES I'm not a Brit, so I don't know how to get the document. Thanks.

What is the opposite of "woke?" We have several red states where the legislatures have banned certain books from school libraries. The excuse is that it would make white students feel guilty about events in US history.

you can't get the document per se, because it's for Civil Servants working for the govt essentially.. but the list I provided above is the main part of what was listed on the Gov.Wales site
