Went for a second opinion.

About a year and a half ago I was sitting in my easy chair and all of a sudden my eyes started itching like crazy.
I rubbed and scratched at them trying to stop the itch and that caused a lot of painful irritation.
I read about what kind of eye drops to use to stop the itch and bought and used them.
That was really one of the few things I did right. That gave me some relief.
Saw the first eye doctor I could get in to see.
He told me that I have map dot fingerprint dystrophy and prescribed Muro 128 drops three times a day. Something I will have for the rest of my life.
Sometimes the allergy drops help with the itch and sometimes the Muro 128 seem to help more.
Sometimes none of them do quite enough to stop the itch.
I went back to my regular eye doctor two weeks ago and told him that my eyes were getting so bad that I wanted to make sure that I didn’t have a fungus or infection in them.
He told me that it was just the allergy causing all of the itching and irritation and he put some drops in my eyes to get started and prescribed a newer supposedly better solution- drops.
That helped for about a week and the itch seemed to come back with a vengeance.
I would try allergy drops and then the Muro drops but didn’t know which one or if either was going to give me any relief.
I called a different eye doctor and saw him today. Told him that I felt like my regular eye doctor was a very good doctor but got to wondering if there was some way to get to the root cause of these eye problems.
This doctor told me that I was using the allergy drops wrong.
He said one time in the morning instead of when they itch.
Rubbing the eyes releases histamines so stop that.
Cold compresses help stop the itch instead of the warm wet compress that I was using.
He said that to find the root cause of the itching and irritation in my eyes I would have to see an allergist.
I carry a two square piece of toilet paper folded to the right size and stiffness to use to wipe at my eyes.
I am careful to just use the paper for a time or two and then use fresh paper so I don’t contaminate my eyes any further.
I would give my kingdom and my horse for an easy cure for these eye problems!

GP44, dealing with allergies sucks. Most likely treating it early in the morning is a good plan.
Maybe hot steaming baths, 2 a day can help. Where do you live, Dust, crops etc?

Look for a problem initiating in the easy chair? Do it still sit there, get rid of it? Other stuff near by?
Do you have pets pissing near there. A loving pet can practically kill us.

Thank you! Great suggestions.
Sometimes I’m too close to the problem to see solutions.
Yes! I will try spending more time in a different room.
We do have a parakeet and I have noticed how the dust comes right up when I empty the vacuum cleaner wife uses to clean up around the bird area.
I will be more careful doing that.
Hope we are onto something here.
Just kidding about my kingdom and my horse you know! Don’t have those. Ha Ha. But you might have made a friend for life!

I hope you find the solution soon, GP. And I've gotta say I'm amazed you could talk to a doctor on the phone; there's no way you can do that around here, they don't take phone calls; all you can do is *maybe* leave a message for a doctor's assistant. And wait and wait for a call back.

I didn’t mean to make it sound like I talked to him on the phone.
I waited about a week to see him with an appointment and had to sit in his waiting room for about a half hour before going in and having my eyes examined.
Then I got to see the doctor.
I was lucky at that! He has been my wife’s eye doctor for years.
Thanks to papa tiger I might very well have found the root cause of the problem because when I empty the vacuum cleaner outside into the big rollaway I use a 4” paint brush to brush feathers and dust off of the filter.
The way the breeze shifts around in that area cause a lot of dust to come back at me at times.
I dump that vacuum about every ten days.
From now on I will wear googles and move out away from the back of the house so that the dust will tend to blow in one general direction- away from me I hope.
