Were you ever a prefect, head girl or head boy?

I never was and I am glad because I am not the sort of person who likes big responsibility. I do remember my best friend became a prefect and she changed for the worse, it upset me. Being given power over others has an effect on a person, just like being a manager in the workplace. One's priorities change and I think few can really handle it. I am a born follower, not a leader.

Not terms I've ever read before. But get the idea. Culturally ingrained human behavior.

Have no problem explaining or managing others in work or leisure tasks. As someone working decades in professional engineering groups, am very detail oriented and tend to document whatever needs to be done so I know how to prepare doing so without having to remind or continue to pressure others.

But as a small Caucasian male now at 65.5" learned long ago that numbers of other males, especially non-professionals, will have a difficult time taking "orders" from me due to size, so have no interest in managing others that have an attitude. A primary reason within the US military, leaders from the get go usually choose the tallest, largest men for leaders while we shrimps are "Road Guards with flashlights". Same men tend to have an attitude with women managers.

In grade school (k-5) I was a hall monitor and (street) crossing guard. The girls and all adults were very obedient, but the boys ran right over the top of me, and I was hurt many times. I only wanted to do my job; I earned a movie and city pool time once a month.
I am neither follower nor leader. I'm a loner, except for here at SeniorForums. :)

The closest we came was to having a teacher’s pet or brown nose that always helped pass out or collect papers, take the attendance report to the office, clean the blackboards, etc…

I wasn’t much of volunteer, and that hasn’t changed. 😉🤭😂
