What a Flash-Back!

This photo was sent to me yesterday. That's me in the front, with the sunglasses and all the hair, and my frequent diving buddy at the time, Josh. This was taken off the coast of Onna Village, Okinawa, where we were exploring their beautiful coral reefs back in the early to mid-80s. Josh's sister sent me the photo. I've only talked to her a handful of times over the past couple decades, but she came across it last week and figured I'd like to have it.

Josh died not long after this picture was taken, drowned while scuba diving in Monterey Bay. The Coast Guard said it looked like an accidental hit-and-run by a boater who probably didn't even know they hit him.

Good to see his face again, just as I remember it after all these years.

Looks like a fun day you were having - two good looking young guys.

That must have brought back so many memories. Very sad knowing your friend passed away .. especially the way he did.

It was an awesome trip. We were there for 3 weeks, if I remember right. A beautiful place with the most gorgeous and interesting underwater coasts I've ever seen.

It's sad Josh wasn't killed outright (if he was indeed hit by a boat), but they know he drowned because there was water in his lungs. The one consolation is that he was doing what he loved most in one of his favorite places.
