What are you eating on the first day of Fall?

Nothing special. I'm glad to hear of your vegetarian meal however.

I did get a box of pumpkin bread mix at Trader Joe's this morning. I make it without adding the egg and it works fine. I won't use the oven until it cools off more but thought I should grab it in case they had a future supply issue.

My German mother used to make that apple cake. I hated it but every one else would rave about it.

I lived in Germany from 1969-1973 (I went to high school there) and I had a friend whose mother was German. Everything she made had beer in it! Since you don't like apple cake, what are your thoughts about Apple Strudel?

Or how about Black Forest Cake... Yummy! Relates to a mysterious area of Germany plus indicating the early blackness of autumnal nights...

Going to do a herbed pork loin roast cooked slow & low w/white wine & stock. I'll make a gravy out of the pan juices. I know I'll be making spaetzle w/sauteed mushrooms & onions. Not sure on the other veggie to have with it. Dessert will be a galette using puff pastry with my home canned spiced pears with cognac sauce. I couple of years ago I found a nice Reisling called Clean Slate that I plan on having with it.

Wow. Are you a gourmet chef?

@Jules, for me fall has always been my favorite time of the year. Celebrating for me started years ago when I was working.

One assignment I had was in a section that had "air condition", or so we were told it did, where we sweated through summer. No matter what we did it to cool it off, it was miserable. There was three of us & the other civilian thought it was great. The deputy & I didn't think so at all. At that time when fall came, he & I were both happy & we'd celebrate. I always brought in a cake for us. She just grumbled because it was going to get cold outside, but it didn't stop her from having cake too.
