What Are Your Indoor Winter Projects?

I always plan a few indoor projects. This year I am painting our basement floor in the unfinished half. Also, put up a few support beams to push the basement wall back out as it is bowed in 3/8”, but will wait until summer and the ground is thawed to actually put any significant torque on the ibeams.

What are your projects?

I'm currently building a chest of drawers, for my wife, for the sewing room. She needs custom sized drawers and a certain height for cutting fabric comfortably. Nothing fancy, just basic shop looking. The 14 drawers are taking awhile. When that project is done, it's back to scraping, repairing and painting the front porch woodwork.

My desk, that I never sit at, is covered in papers and photos. I don’t want to deal with any of it. Eventually I’ll have to. It was supposed to start this year.
oooh jules it's only a desk at the end of the day , not a whole room... so c'mon, get your gears going and get 2 boxes, go to the desk, don't sit down.. stand up so you do it fast .. and toss into ''keep and throw'' . Then deal with the boxes tomorrow.. and you'll be amazed how quickly that desk is cleared.. (y)

I always have a few winter projects, and hope to re- tile my bathroom floor before spring-and re paint my kitchen walls and I am getting ready to donate clothes to the local clothing drive again. But I like them more than what I see on line.

I have not bought hangers for years- my idea is if I donate at least 5 things to the drive, every few months ,I can buy one thing brand new. Now I have a pile of hangers because I have been sticking to that idea pretty good.

Yes, there are always those chores I leave for winter days, mostly purging the garage, closets and cabinets....so far I've managed to get the closets done, my daughter helped me , what a relief that was.

Man, that's an ongoing struggle for me too! I use my office daily, but part of me ignores the mess. I do try to make an effective foray every so often toward orderliness. Sorting through and clearing the top of the table where various current reading and correspondence collects. Sorting through now-irrelevant, useless papers, and whole files, stuffed into the file cabinet. Making room for new useful materials.

Other than that (and more enjoyably), in my workshop I do various repairs and practical adaptations to things from around the homestead. I've posted about a few on other threads.

Hubby and I had plans to lay down leftover berber carpet in the basement. That's not getting done. I also wanted the interior walls painted in the whole house because the previous owner had painted every room a taupe color and it feels dark and depressing. When we remodeled 3 rooms, I had them painted blue so that was done. We were going to hire a painter but since my life and finances have changed drastically since hubby died in October, I'm not doing anything else to this house. Hope to sell it next year. Maybe painting will be done then....or not.

I sanded down the bathroom vanity and painted it. Then I painted the wall above the same color as the vanity. Then I paid someone to take down the giant ugly mirror and hang the really pretty one I bought.

I also decided that spring cleaning should be done in winter when the weather is bad. So I washed all the curtains, windows, woodwork, etc during a 2 day snowstorm.

I'm working on my winter project currently. When I had my roof leak, I had damage to some ceilings. All of that is being addressed now, or most of it. Hopefully it is all cosmetic and nothing worse. And a little painting and repair of a wall indoors. Much more on my list, but that is my current to do list.

Taking a break right now from considering major projects, though I can't call them "winter" because I need to take some time to examine my options so they haven't been begun. I wish mine were cosmetic, but I've passed the point of letting them go any further.
