What do you look for in a used vehicle?

I hate to buy a vehicle with over 100,000 miles if it's a Ford, chevy, Dodge vehicle. This day in time I can't find a cheap in price vehicle with less then 100,000 miles any more. Now if I buy a vehicle it will be Nissan or Honda or Toyota because they have good history of being very reliability. My local Toyota dealer has a picture of a Toyota pick-up with a million miles on it and never had a engine replacement. I have a friend that had a Toyota 4x4 pick-up with automatic trans and one day he came by to visit and when he tried to leave my house he couldn't get it to back-up so he checked the trans oil and found out it was almost dry and we put 3 quarts of trans oil and it went another 100,000 miles before it needed another trans. This happened over 35 years ago.

Abuse...numero uno
I can drive a vehicle less than 5 miles and know whether it's fit or not.

The key to the longevity of any mechanism is preventative maintenance
I look for records
But, beyond that, I look for leaks, wear, tire treads, and I listen and feel
Both my vehicles have more than 250K miles
They'll double that

One might ask why I look at tire treads
They tell a tale in regard to alignment, steering components, brakes

I look for something with low mileage, a viewable history, and of a make with a reputation for reliability and durability. I don't want to buy someone else's problems...
