What do you think of news coverage of the "world"?

If you watch news coverage, it's mostly local news coverage. For instance in the US, mostly DC news. In the UK, mostly London. France-Paris, etc. It seems outside of a 45 second video about some foreign natural disaster, there isn't any real "world" news? Do you really have an idea what's going on in other parts of the world? Do you really care?

This may sound very unsympathetic but I don’t watch the news on tv, on my phone or listen to it on the radio if I can all but help it. I’ve got enough in my life to get overwhelmed by that I don’t need to get overwhelmed about things I can’t change anyway, so the answer is NO! I care but only so much.

I care but there is nothing I can do about it and I can't change one thing.
So I try to stay clear of most news now.

I watch the world news at times and like the USA news it can get depressing with all the turmoil. I do care, however, I'm not going to put myself into a despondent depression over it any longer.

I find all news depressing, there is way too much bad stuff in the world, and I don't like to hear it day after day... Even local news gets like that... I once wrote a letter to the CBC in Ottawa, and asked them for every bad story, could they post a happy thing, they wrote back and said they would try... Happens maybe once a week...

News reports should receive a rating like movies..Then we could choose our. HAPPY NEWS...KIND OF HAPPY...WARNING WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK...BEWARE BLOOD AND GUTS...ALL DEPRESSING AND REAL BAD. Then we could choose our fondness.....sometimes I like Happy News and sometimes I say LET ER RIP, LESTER! :alien:

One of our local news stations addressed that on the air. They are trying to put some lighthearted stories amongst all the doom and gloom. .. realizing that it is hard to do these days. Sad.

I get most of my ''world news'' from BBC World News on PBS and also Yahoo News, will have to try Google News. It's always good to know what is happening, even though I have no control over it. Sometimes when I am feeling down I avoid ALL news. I had a friend who said he got so depressed watching news that he put himself on a "No News Diet".

Of course I care. I don't waste much time on local TV news; it's mostly 'infotainment', copying Fox News' format. Ugh. I get more insightful and contextual local coverage from the NY Times' California newsletter, LOL.

I'm a NYT and WSJ subscriber, and also like to read the London Guardian US, which is one of the best on ecology reporting; also The Atlantic and CALmatters.org. I'd love to add the Wash Post, LA Times and Times magazine but I just don't have hours in the day for them too. I have to settle for links to interesting articles that show up in my usual newsfeeds.

On Cable TV we watch CNN (DH and I LOVE Fareed Zakaria's show, so thought-provoking and intelligent!), BBC World, and very occasionally MSNBC. For a while I was really hooked on CNBC's "Fast Money" - very entertaining! - but again, no time for it any longer.

It's a great time for info junkies like me!
