What do you think of pre-pay gas stations?

In another thread about store fitting rooms being open after Covid, the posts were about pre-pay gas stations, Most seemed not to like them. We don't have any around here, I can't figure out how can you pre-pay to fill up your tank if you can't tell exactly how much you need? What do you think of pre-pay gas stations?

little bit annoying, but if that's my only option.. then I'd just stick £20 in to the tank until I got to the next petrol station

As NorthernLight says, that’s all we have here. Chose your fuel grade and amount you want to put in or unlimited. Tap your CC or debit card, enter your code, if needed and start filling. If you choose unlimited, you just stop pumping any time or wait for it to quit when it’s full.

Easy peasy.

There’s the option to pay with cash inside.

It's never been a big deal. If we think it'll take $20 to fill, we'll pay $20 and that's that. If it took less, we just get the change.

I guess you just have to figure out how much your gas tank needs and hope you are not adding too much. If you do add too much then the gas will just overflow and run out all over the place and make a huge mess I guess. I also never used one.

Don't know what kind of gas pumps you have in Maryland, but ours automatically stop pumping when the tank is full.

They do automatically stop, but I have seen people who still after the gas pump clicks go and try and squeeze the last bit of gas out mostly to attempt to try and top the money off at an even dollar I suppose and the gas runs all out. I guess you would call that more human error or human stupidity. :ROFLMAO:

I have seen so many people do that! Like it's a bad omen or something to pay $19.60 for gas ... by golly, they're gonna squeeze an even 20 from it. I vote for human stupidity. :giggle: @Vintage Carla

Been the situation here in California for years. Otherwise given how the state has become a Mecca for criminals and low lifes, not a few will without paying...

FILL UP...DRIVE AWAY

The honor system that we grew up in no longer applies in an overpopulated wealth driven world where honesty and ethics have been lost. Was reading a SF Bay Area news article yesterday of how the San Francisco public transportation service, MUNI, is facing an enormous 240 million dollar budget deficit that worsened over the pandemic. So The City that is also losing many large tech employers, that has a huge public system since many residents don't even own vehicles, is looking for new taxes/fees. What they won't publicly state is that significant numbers of their bus riders NEVER pay, walking right past bus drivers because there is no enforcement. Thus are losing money. That reflects a general increasing attitude of people in the state, especially lower classes, so no wonder gas stations want money up front.

I went into a station that was pre-pay. Got really annoyed with going back and forth to the counter. Will never go to that station again.

one station here will give a nickle discount per gallon if you pay inside, since you have to pay anyway if you use plastic to pay then what you dont put in your tank will be refunded to your account. and if you have a grocery store membership card you can get more discounts
