What do you think of the new digital coupons that the grocery stores are offering?

I'm all for saving a dollar when I can. Always looking for sales and clipping coupons but these new digital coupons drive me crazy! For me to take advantage of the sale I have to go online, sign in at the grocery store we use, find the coupons for the week, circle the items I want so it will automatically be put on my supermarket card so when I check out I will get that price. To top it off, you usually are allowed only one, but if you buy at the regular sale price you can maybe have 4, that is, as long as you purchase 4 or whatever the number may be. If not, the others will ring up at the regular price. Now some folks may find this a bit easier because they have the internet on their phone. Then they can go up and down the isles and circle the item right there in the store. I happen to still have a Tracfone and pay for minutes. My husband and I just use it for emergency and when we travel. We have a land line in the house. Just so aggravated with this. Maybe this isn't available in all parts of the country or in other countries. Here in New Jersey many stores have it.

I'm like you Ruth, I have no interest in digital coupons. Also just have a simple Tracfone for emergencies or short calls with my husband. I get ads from four big markets weekly in my newspaper, also clip some other coupons from the Sunday paper sometimes. I already was forced to sign up for those store cards where they track every single item you've purchased in their store for decades....simply because without the store cards I'd always be paying full price, and I'm not rich enough to throw money out the window. Funny how they manipulate people into saving that benefits them, of course if you sign up online then they also have your email address.

I've tried using digital coupons since they have come out, with nothing but trouble. They don't transfer correctly when I do activate them (tried them at two different stores ). At one store which I previously had issues using them, I printed them out only to be told they couldn't accept them that way! I gave up.

I didn't know they were.

What is a digital coupon? I get mine in the mail.
Guitarist, in answer to your question about digital coupons. When the grocery store ad comes in the mail or the newspaper, certain items have digital coupon next to the item. If you want that item and a better price, you go online to the store site. Sign in, circle the item and hopefully it is then loaded to your store card. When you check out, hopefully it will give you the better price. And if this sounds very confusing believe me it is.

I've used digital coupons for several years and haven't had a problem. They load fine to my store card, and my receipt shows "ecoupon" deduction. However, it takes some time to go to store site and look for items that I use/buy.

I don't clip paper coupons, but get some decent ones in the mail.

Thanks, Ruth. Are digital coupons those sort of weird-looking squares like the one I saw on an ad on the back of a bus once? Someone told me if I had a smartphone I could swipe it or click it or scan it or something and use it for a discount at that particular store.

Now I have a smartphone but I haven't seen any more of those squares.

I have seen the square you posted here on items. I guess somehow you scan it with your phone. The photo I am showing here is from the newspaper ad. This is for the digital coupon. But you must go online to the store web page circle the items you want and it will go on your store card.dig coupon resized.jpg

Your smartphone would need the QR Reader app.

Digital coupons sound like a good idea, could cut down on the time other shoppers are stuck behind the coupon redeemers in checkout.
