What happened to canned chow main in stores?

They have chow mein in the local grocery, but it's those add water and nuke in a plastic tray deals. That also have the thin crispy noodles. Even from WalMart (12 miles away) but it has to be ordered for later delivery.

When I was a kid, I remember LaChoy and Chung King brands plentiful on grocery shelves.

I haven't seen them in a long time. We used to have it mixed with the hard noodles. I used to like it. The sodium is way too much though. I don't know why they load canned foods down with salt!

Probably because its a preservative, and a flavor enhancer to boot...which makes you wonder; how bad would a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup taste, and how sick could you get from it, if it wasn't loaded with salt?

I don't buy canned soup. It's ridiculously easy to make.

Partly because there seems to be a chineese restaurant on every corner in town these days. That may be a left coast thing though.
It isn't.

Plus, most Chinese restaurants deliver. So, authentic Chinese food and the convenience of delivery killed LaChoy's canned chow mien. I think its low price is the only thing keeping it afloat.
