What happened to that guy?

So many years after we ran around together I went back and visited the old stomping grounds.
Real friends have so much to talk about.
What life is like now and what has happened since those good old days.
Joe asked me if I remember that crazy cousin of his that used to tag along with us at times.
I mean this guy was a really off the wall, embarrassment to be around because of some of the stupid things he would do.
Joe said that it was his cousin that made the national news by painting “ Judy come back I love you” on the side of his house.
I asked Joe if Judy ever came back and he said “no but his cousin moved to California and married some rich old gal,” and he was doing alright for himself.”
After that I wondered why some rich old woman would marry somebody as crazy as Joe’s cousin.
I mean you didn’t have to worry about being bitten by a stray dog but the stray dog had to worry about Joe’s cousin biting it.

Later on I read/heard that some of the craziest and wildest kids I went to school with were very successful. You just never know. None sounded as crazy as Joe’s cousin.

When I knew Richard (Marin) Scrushy, he was one of the guys that hung out at the Dairy Queen and had bags of smoke for sale in the early 70's.

Then life happened I guess, and he founded HealthSouth Corporation, a global healthcare company. I was SHOCKED at the success. HealthSouth was going like gang busters. There was more big money going around than folks knew what to do with.

SOoooo ... Some years later, Scrushy was indicted by a federal grand jury, along with former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. The indictment included 30 counts of money laundering, extortion, obstruction of justice, racketeering, and bribery. He was convicted along with Siegelman. Fines and jail time for both.

The long haired party guy with lids for sale, who'd dropped out of high school at 17 and lived in a trailer, had gotten off the porch and hit the ground running with the big dogs. But it cost him.

Judge Allwin E. Horn ruled that Scrushy was responsible for HealthSouth's fraud, and ordered him to pay $2.87 billion. Yep, Billion with a B. Scrushy had to auction off his homes and all assets. Wish I could have caught the mansion he'd built on Lake Martin. Shoot.

This guy was a skinny little 14 year old kid, with a full head of curly black hair, and he was the local "guitar hero" because he was playing in bars with a top local rock and roll band, called the Midnighters. He was so young that the rest of the band, who were all old enough to be able to drink, had him stand behind the piano at the back of the stage, so he was hidden from the audience. He didn't sing, but he sure could pick that Fender Stratocaster.

His Mother was from the Six Nations Reserve near Brantford , Ontario, but she and Robbie lived in the east end of Toronto in a slum called Cabbagetown. Robbie learned to play guitar at around age eight, from one of his Uncles. By 16 Robbie had been discovered by an American rocker named Ronnie Hawkins, who was the big guy in the Toronto music scene around 1960. So who was that skinny kid ?

Robbie Robertson, the heart and soul of The Band. From very humble roots, to the top of the charts. I knew him back then. JIM.

I knew a kid who was quite wild but was a friend of my brother. He dated me a few times and wrote a song for me and sang it. I was in love but too young for him. He went on to sing with a local band and then made the big time with records, TV appearances and I knew he would never remember me.
