What in the world are these ugly things?

I started my world famous beef stew, at least in my small world, and had most ingredients added already when I opened the small bag of potatoes, I saw a few black ones, red ones and regular ones. I cut a black one in half and it was PURPLE. I talked to a few folks on Faceplant and they said they are very good.
So…I cut them up and put them in the crockpot. Hope it tastes okay. Anyone ever used these aliens potatoes?
