What is a stoat?

@hollydolly, what is a stoat? I saw a video, they look like we call a ferret over here. Are they a common wild animal over there? Are they kept as pets? Hedgehogs were all the rage over here at one point, for pets. I know they are a common thing that live in England but I have not heard about stoats.

OMG..hedgehogs are wild animals.. like Stoats they should never be kept as pets.. Unlike the ferret which can be domesticated

Stoats are a very common wide animal here.. unlike a ferret in that it's smaller... and more like a weasel...

The difference between stoats and ferrets is their preferred time of day. Stoats are active throughout the day and evening, while ferrets prefer being active at night.

I've seen stoats on BBC America. They have a lot of those wildlife shows narrated by David Attenborough.

You must admit they are very cute animals. Many are but may not be the best pets. We must always consider if the animal would be happy as a pet or would be better as wild.

Ferrets can be OK house pets, BUT they must be spayed or neutured before they reach sexual maturity. Pygmy Hedgehogs are a popular house pet, but they do not live very long, and they are prone to skin infections due to the air in most homes not being humid enough for them. Jim B.

Your question reminded me of this. But in this video, not a stoat, a ferret.

This got me thinking of those Planet of the Apes movies from back in the day. Some disease developed which wiped out dogs, cats, and other infantilized slave animals. People turned to more simian alternatives, and soon put them to domestic chores and carrying their shopping. Eventually a revolt began to brew and the son of two time-travelling chimps led them to what became a global revolt.

Already degenerate as a society and just living off the fruits of prior generations concentrated largely into megacities, the humans soon fell into barbarism from this additional challenge. Apes easily drove them out and soon they became feral tribes, and then herds.
