What is left, hope won't cause resentment

As stated before, we bought an unimproved 8 acre mountain retreat within an hour drive from our N Utah home maybe 25 years ago for $8,800. Last week I got an unsolicited offer (several over the last few years). We've never done any improvements to it but our son has been building, grading roads and clearing spots for him and his siblings on it the last few years, it will be left to our 3 children anyway. The offer was $56,000 to which I laughed when reading the offer.

Looking into it further I found a couple of listings. One listed two building lots lower down for a reduced price of $290,000 for 36.6 acres ($8000) an acre. So based on that, my real offer should have been somewhere north of $64,000, not counting any improvements he has made. It was a lark but nice to realize I did make a good purchase. We've already have given our children and grandchildren much of our holdings so that we want no bickering over our things that meant something to us.

I tell them, 'Don't sell land, they're not making any new'
