What is Normal?

Yesterday was the day that the UK re-opened allegedly, but I fear
that some didn't get the message!

Today I took my brother to a "Private Hospital", BUPA, I believe, he
is in a wheelchair and I delivered him to the hospital for a scan, the
receptionist took his temperature, gave him a different mask and also
put some hand cleaner on his hands, she then took him away to the
waiting room, when she came back, she told me to wait outside, not
the usual friendly people that they were before, so they are not going
to open for a while, next time I will take a book.

It was stated that despite the UK ''re-opening'' last month on July 19th that masks would not always be required , Hospitals and clinic will all still insist on the wearing of masks. ..as will airlines and ferries.. but in fact business and sotres have been given the right to make their own rules.

During the pandemic I had to be treated at a Private ( Bupa ) Hospital , and I wasn't ( as the patient) even permitted to be inside the waiting room, I had to wait outside in my car until I was called in to see the consultant..and my husband had to stay waiting outside..

I had to go to the hospital to have blood drawn and the guy in the reception area took my temp and asked me if I ever registered before showing me a keypad with a screen. I said I don't remember. So he said I had to give my cellphone number first and some other stuff. Thinking they would text me on my cell when they were ready for me I told him I didn't have my cellphone with me. He made a big deal out of it, derisively proclaiming that no they aren't going to call you on your cellphone, to a waiting room full of people. I didn't want to be there to begin with. Why did I have to deal with effing a__holes like that as well? This is why I'd rather take my chances and die at home than go into a hospital.

I am still wearing a mask when I go out, if I use public transport,
I must wear one or walk, in the shops and in the shopping centre,
about 75% are still wearing them, those who don't are usually the
younger men, who all seem to think that they are above that sort
of thing.

If your local hospital become infected with a more virulent strain of Covid, where are you going to go for health care? To the next super strain infected hospital? You have to maintain stringent protocols to ensure a safe environment for healthcare. I believe it's going to be a slow return of most our common rituals, which have been upended.

Life will never be "normal" as we knew it, we all have to adjust to the new reality. Depending on where we live in the world restrictions are in place, these restrictions will vary depending on the covid case load. Those of us who are retired and still have our independence are perhaps a little more fortunate than those to have to work. We have more control on where we go and who we associate with, working negates that. We might have to create our own new normal depending on our circumstances.
