What is the biggest mess/spill you ever made in your home?

Last night I was reaching in the back of the kitchen cabinet for something and tipped over not one but two full bottles of bitters. They came crashing down and hit my tile floor, shattered into a million pieces and the grout between the tiles seemed to suck it up like a sponge and discolored quickly. It took me awhile to pick up the glass and mop up the liquid. I poured straight bleach on the area ,let it sit and than mopped it several times. This morning it looked good.
I've also spilled quite a bit of paint in my day.
Have you had any major spills and did it do any damage?

Oh Ruth, that must've been awful! Thank goodness I don't spill too often but have done my share of damage. The last time was a few weeks ago when I tipped a large full mug of coffee on to the carpet. I put towels on it to sop it up. I have also spilled red wine on the carpet in the past and that was a mess! I still have a partial stain of what I couldn't remove with cleaner.

I've had two memorable I Love Lucy moments in the kitchen.

The first was in an apartment with my very first dishwasher. I loaded the dishwasher and didn't have proper dishwashing detergent so I gave the interior of the dishwasher a good squirt of dish soap closed the door and hit the button. A few minutes later a huge amount of suds started oozing out of the dishwasher covering the kitchen floor with about six inches of foam. I shut off the machine and cleaned up the mess. I restarted the machine and the wave of suds reappeared. Another cleanup. Before starting the machine again I emptied the dishwasher and scrubbed the interior to remove as much soap as possible.

The second was with an old stand mixer similar to the one pictured.

I was making seven-minute frosting and left the mixer unattended for a moment. It somehow flopped back to the upright position and the beaters threw frosting all over the walls, floor, counters, and me creating a very sticky mess.

Why do these things always seem to happen when you are in a hurry or too tired to deal with them?

During an earthquake, full gallon glass jugs of cooking oil and pancake syrup fell off the shelf onto a terrazzo floor. When we were able to return to the apartment three days later, I was faced with the task of cleaning up the sticky, oily, splintery mess that covered almost the entire floor.

Or maybe it was the time I was mad at my husband and threw a large platter of Mexican food (enchiladas, maybe?) at the ceiling. That was fun washing off the ceiling.

We had 3 shelves above the refrigerator where we stored the large glass serving bowls and large platters and casserole dishes for when the entire family was over to eat. My nephew, who is 6'7" and about 300 pounds came over one night and when he came in the door, he door knob slipped out of his hand, hit the wall, which vibrated through the wall and knocked all 3 shelves of glassware down on the floor, actually cracking the tile it came down with such force. I was standing about 3 feet away when it happened and large pieces of glass were found a good 6 feet beyond me. How I didn't get hurt I'll never know, but even after sweeping and vacuuming and mopping the floor several times, we were still finding slivers of glass for several weeks.
