What is your dream place to retire to?

Truthfully, I just would not have the courage to go anywhere else, no friends, no family. I don't have a personality that would allow to adapt to a strange place. I have the funds, wish I had the strength to start a new. I would pick somewhere near water. Would not need to be the ocean, a lake, river would be fine. .Just a beautiful place in nature where a simple life is tranquil. There is some kind of comfort I feel when I have been in such places. Of course, my husband was always with me during those times. We both thought our retirement would give us the opportunity, then he died and the dream was gone.

I am in my 'dream location" - 40 years in this 100 year old house with 4 bedrooms and a self contained "granny suite"; 3/4 mile to the beach, close to shopping and public transportation, great neighbours and a great neighbourhood.

Currently a PhD female student is in the basement suite. My plan is to move into the suite when I can't manage the stairs.

I'm staying put where I am. After traveling 67 countries over the years and putting up with traffic noise, heat, humidity, poverty, trying to speak foreign languages, keeping away from street hustlers and dirt, I figure "there ain't no place like home." I love the wide open spaces here, the parks where I can hike, the 4 seasons and the quality of life. Grocery stores are full of food and there are plenty of concerts and shows to attend every year. Wifi is on 24/7 and it's cheap. Our leader is elected and not put in by a group of military generals. No one comes banging on my door at midnight to take me away. I drink the water right out of the tap. None of those silly polluting water bottles for me!

Sitting on a tropical beach and burning my skin is not healthy and not for me. Loud rap music just drives me right "up the wall." Been there, done it and don't wanta do it anymore. Yap! "There's no place like home."

Where I live we have no such problem... 50 miles one way to the store other direction 16 miles. Had this plan my entire life when retiring to get some land and a home with lots of hard woods, choices for fishing spots, lots of deer and wild life. My wife and I found it 2 years ago after search for a few years. The place is 36 acres with a hundred plus old apple trees and hard woods. Nice little house, great well water and plenty of it, good garage. But the best is it is quiet deer in the yard, same with turkey, and other critters. No cars, no people, no crime. Never going to leave here will get a live-in if needed in the future. own it paid for...
We all need to and should find that perfect place..

You are lucky to find such a place. The world is getting so congested with millions of people living in depressing monster cities where crime, noise, traffic and drugs are a way of life. It is only going to get worse and worse. Canada, where I live is importing a million immigrants this year. Soon they will be demanding "their rights." I see "mucho problema" on the horizon.

I'll just stay here and, as they say, bloom where I've been planted. It's too much trouble to move. And I really, really like my job. I've also put too much time, effort and money into my garden.

Besides, I've traveled way too much over the years. My travel gene is worn out.
