What is your normal time of getting up?

I have a friend who has never worked and sleeps 'til noon, and I know Steve and his wife sleep in...

I wake up 6:30 - 7'ish and love when I wake up an hr or so later, just doesn't happen often enough.

What time do you usually start your day (and for those of you who work,) when you're not working?

At this time of the year I love getting out reasonably early,(7am) somehow the start of a new day is quite refreshing. Come winter and that's a different story, but usually I'm out by 9am.

I used to get up at 4.30 am for about 5 years when I was working, only 3 days out of 6, how I still don't know! Then it became 7.00, much better.
however, I find going to sleep very difficult, so now I go to bed late, stay awake for a couple of hours, consequently get up about 9.00 to 9.30

I am up between 3:30 am and 4:00 am. I start work at 6 am, so I am done at 2:30, it's pretty nice actually because I am a morning person anyway.

I am also a morning person...I try not to wake up before 4:30 - 5:00.

I don't sleep thru the night, wake up many times but fall back asleep. I never nap but do go to bed by 9:00 and watch TV til a fall asleep.

I seem to have an internal alarm clock that wakes me at about 4am each morning. Or perhaps it is that I can almost hear the freight trains going through at that time.

I also have trouble getting to sleep but part of my problem is the intercom I keep on the nightstand that lets me hear what's going on at the barn. It only takes one rattle of somebody's door chain to get me wide awake.

If the barn noises keep me awake too much and I sleep past 5:30 AM, Mr. TWH is hollerin' to make sure I'm still alive.

If the miserable white cat wakes me up at 4:00 AM, I stay up but generally manage to get a nap sometime during the day. I am really good at power naps - lollol

You are such a better person than I am, but even yrs ago when I had mono I couldn't nap during the day. Wish I could, but interrupted sleep and unable to get back into it, I'm screwed for the day.

I was born nocturnal, the only time I ever saw a sunrise was if I hadn't gotten to bed yet.

I still operate on shiftwork hours which change over every few weeks. Mostly turn in around 1.30 2am but gradually that stretches to 3.30 even to 5am sometimes. Then I go back to 'normal' for a while. I get up when I wake up. Sometimes that's 10am and sometimes, like today it's 3 hours after I went to bed. aaaagh. There will be nod-offs at the keyboard this afternoon, guaranteed.

Have no problems sleeping at all, just do it at strange times. I can nap sitting up in 5 to 10 minute grabs and that's plenty to get me through the day. I don't take comfy granny naps as I'd sleep too long and stay up all night and the dog would get all confused and it's just too damned complicated explaining why you're asleep at 1pm when you aren't working any more and.... siiiiigh.

Many older people seem to become night owls after they retire, I always was, but strange that so many change. Have any of you changed that way or do I just know some weird people?

I used to get up at 4 or 5'oclock am, depending on my shift at the time. Now that I'm retired, I'm in bed between 11-12 midnight, and up between 8-9 am.

In a former life, I worked shift work for 40 years. I retired 11 years ago and I must admit, it took a while to settle into a "normal" sleep pattern.

I usually go to bed around 10 or 11 PM.... watch TV for an hour or so and then go to sleep. My sleep is usually broken and full of stupid dreams.... I wake around 7 AM but if I don't have to be anywhere, I doze for an hour or so.

So.... I'm left wondering, just what is "normal" sleep ?

Most nights I go to bed around 10.30 but I usually have trouble falling asleep as I always start thinking about stuff that's happened or going to happen or worry about somebody or something...can't help myself.

I've had nights when I've still been wide awake 2 hours later and what really irks me is my hubby hits the pillow and within 5 minutes he's sound asleep.......really sh*ts me.:mad-new:

Thank goodness that only happens occasionally but I still can't fall asleep quickly most nights.

I wake between 6.30 and 7 get up and go for my 30 minute walk before showering and having breakfast.:eek:nthego:
I really enjoy my early morning walks, any time of the year except when it's raining.

I've always been a night owl. I got up early and went to work when I was working, but I stayed up late. since I've retired, I'm up around 5:30 and go to bed somewhere between 10:30 and midnight.

To bed at about Midnight, I am a lousy sleeper as I was a afternoon shift worker. I am up at between 6/30 > 7/30 am.
I very rarely sleep more than 2 hours at a time & often get up for an hour or so, then back to bed for a few hours more.

Hi there..
When we were working, we had video clubs.. The shops opened up at noon and we closed at 2:00am and 4:00am on weekends..
During the Christmas season, we were open 24/7 till the first week of January..
We NEVER EVER closed which means we were open EVERY day of the year..

Since then, we have been used to being night owls..
We still go to bed rather late and we get up around 10:30 to 11:30 ..... depending..
After all, we are retired and find that nothing really happens in the mornings while in the evenings everything is going on.. Good TV ...
Now, we have grand-children in New Zealand and we sort of contact them after their supper which is about 1:00am to 2:00am our time.......

I hope this explains why we sleep in and are not early birds...

Bottom line ..... No reason to get up early !!!!!

PS:.... If we have a doctor's appointment or any other reason to get up early, I set the alarm, otherwise NO ALARM !!!!
We get up when we get up, have breakfast and watch the noon news while having our coffee...

I prefer before sunrise which was about 4 or 5 a.m. when I was getting waves every morning. But, now working until midnight, I'm lucky if I'm awake by 7 a.m.

BED AFTER MIDNIGHT WHEN i GIVE MY WIFE HER NIGHT MEDICATION
Then up for pee about 3am(either myself or help my wife dress after she goes
5am wifes morning tablets
8 am more medication
9.30 pee time for me then arise to make breakfast for the two of us
10.00am take coffee into lounge to watch morning news (or bloody comercials)

What is 'normal' sleep?
i think we have shown that there is no such thing.
I do think that some people are larks and some night owls, and I also think that some sleep patterns may be inherited, (another characteristic I have from my Dad.)
But even after 60 years I am not very good at it..

Not inherited here Viv, both my parents woke sparrows as a hobby. I drove them nuts with my strange sleeping hours. I know because I was constantly informed of it by both of them when I was growing up. Those 2am cot rattling and gurgling sessions must have really left an impression.

I get up between 4 and 6 AM .

Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man healthy,.....well I'm healthy. I don't what happened to the rest!
