What the .....with opticians?

I've been trying to get to an optician to get my new lens prescription. I've been to three now only to find their offices closed for one reason or another. One I went last Friday afternoon and they had closed at noon. Another on Wednesday and they had just started a 2-week vacation according to a note on the door. I went to another one today and it was closed because they are only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I can't believe my luck on picking just the time they are closed. Too bad there not one more local - I have to travel quite a ways even to get to those.

Do you have a current rx for your contacts? If so, use 1-800-contacts or whatever. If you need an eye exam, Costco by far is the best. Oh, Walmart sells contacts also, though I would never recommend going to there for an eye exam. Just my own personal opinion.

Not contacts - regular framed glasses. I have the prescription and the frames. I just need someone to get the new lenses to put in the frames. Nearest Costco is 80 miles away in Enfield, CT.

Do you have Lenscrafters?

Go online, Google "opticians" and put in your zip code. It will give you the names of the local ones and you can call them to check their hours (should be posted on their websites if they have them).

I got my new lenses at Wal-Mart (well, they send 'em out somewhere) and they are fine and cost a fraction of what the fancy-schmancy optician place was going to charge. There's also Lenscrafters, and several others.

That is a coincidence. I found this with dentists this week. Monday was a local holiday here which made things worse. However, on Sunday I developed pretty bad toothache. As it did not go away, I tried to get to a dentist on Monday. My own dentist was away on holiday. So, I tried several dentists close to me. None were open on that day. I also tried the dental hospital here in the west of Scotland and they were not dealing with patients either. The best that they could offer was to refer me to the health emergency service. I have no ides what they would do for me, so did not try. I eventually found a dentist quite some distance away who would deal with me as an emergency.

I thought it was pretty poor for a service who should really be available to deal with dental emergencies. There must be more than me waken with toothache!

I don't blame you for being aggravated! I live in a small town but we do have a lot of choices as far as opticians, dentists and doctors, however, if I have a serious medical issue, I go to one of the larger hospitals outside the area. It would probably be worth the time to call some of these places before venturing out and maybe look into the possibility of finding some on call services if they are available in your area. Like you say, you would think there would be! Have you asked your regular dentist? I would start there.
