What was I thinking?

Laundry going. Time for shower. Noticed the bathtub drain seemed slow but I had just placed one of those fancy drain screens so thought, "Oh, it's just that screen." After showering, with about two inches of water sitting in the tub, removed that new screen and...nothing. No draining! Used the plunger, sounded completely stopped up. Got out the hair remover thingy, wouldn't even go in. Since the washer is in that bathroom and uses a common drain as the tub, I thought maybe there was a problem there. Nope, washer is draining fine. Sink is fine, toilet flushes fine. Am thinking, "Crap, now I have to get the plumber out here. How long will that take?"

Then I noticed the tub stopper was closed.

I can totally relate. One winter I did a load of laundry and the laundry water backed up into the tub. I could not figure it out. Much later that day there was a loud explosion outside. I ran outside and found ....... nothing. 🤷‍♀️

I went back in and decided to check my security cameras.

My tub and washer drain outside, not into the septic. Evidently the drain line had been frozen and when it thawed enough from the laundry water and let go it look like a mighty snow blower had made a pass through the back yard. When the "snow" settled the yard looked just like it always had. 🤦‍♀️

Oh, GoodEnuff, I don't want to even THINK about the number of times I've done something like that recently.

I have to remember to plug my brain in in the morning.....
Plug your brain in? You can do that? What a great idea! Will search through the basket where I keep all those charging cords and see if I can find one that fits. Is it USB/USC/12V/120V/220V? AC or DC? Sure don't want to use the wrong one and short something more out. Then I'd have to call the electrician.

ROFL! This house has a separate laundry room "upstairs" (key word, upstairs). That washer connection also drains to the outside. I can see this happening here, too. Luckily, there is another laundry connection in the "downstairs" bathroom; that is the one I use, partly for that very reason.

Edit to add: The one I use drains into the septic tank.
