I have seen so many times where tornadoes follow the same path.
We dodged the bullet just recently by one that tore through maybe ten to fifteen miles away.
Wife decided that it would be a good idea to have helmets to wear in what we call our safe area in the basement.
I think that is a good idea.
A helmet saved me from death or serious injury years ago when I was a volunteer fireman.
It was my first fire call and I was told to stick close to the assistant chief.
We went up on the roof of an old building and I was about three to four feet below the old brick chimney when it gave way and fell over towards me.
It hit the front of my fireman’s helmet and the impact knocked me out of the way.
Funny how I was so young at the time that it didn’t bother me at all.
I felt embarrassed at the time for making the mistake of being in the way of the falling chimney.
We put out the fire and went back to the station and cleaned up the equipment and went home like nothing had happened.
I don’t remember any of the firemen saying anything about it once they asked right away if I was okay.
Looking back now I think about how easily it could have been that I would have wound up in a hospital instead of my bed at home that night and how it might have changed my life completely.
