I don't think so. Afghans are more open weave. This is an afghan:

That's crocheted. I would call it a Granny Square blanket. Again this is another case of British and American having different names for things.

my mother gave me one similar to that top one. it looks like a throw blanket to me. one you could wear on your lap.

you can use them for an aftgan or wall hanging --they are very pretty

It's a blanket for a baby carriage or stroller. I have something similar, reversible, and much nicer, actually. It was gifted to me for baby.

Oh, mine is wool, but is also the same size with fringe, with a child pleasing design. Mine has vibrant red & blue & white colors.

Table throws... perfect for setting down under a centerpiece, pot-holders at mealtime, etc, etc.

Perfect table throws for under a dinner plate when eating a fresh oven baked crusty bun. When done eating, gather-up all four corners of the throw, step outside, shake, good to go for next time.

Exactly. Those ducks look like they are from the late 1980's "welcome friends" era. They are throws.
