What would you do in this situation?

Say an eccentric relative, to whom you are the only living human heir, passes away, but his will leaves his vast wealth to his dog. You only inherit on the demise of said pet. You are appointed as the doggie's caregiver. Does the Rover live out his natural life, or is he going to the big fire hydrant in the sky posthaste?

In my opinion, the doggie should not only live out his life...but live it like a KING! Most dogs deserve it.

If it's a "vast wealth" as you say, then after the doggie gets what is reasonably needed for him, I would petition the courts to rule for the next of "kin" aka caregiver, to receive a portion what is reasonably expected for the caregiver. Obviously a dog can't use a million dollars nor have the where-with-all to be able to decide what charities to tithe it's 10 percent+ to.

However, if that caregiver was a despicable low-life kind of person, especially if he disrespected or even abused the deceased, then he deserves nothing and the deceased probably meant to punish him.

Your post made me think of Gunther.

Countess Karlotta Libenstein of Germany left approximately $106 million to her German Shepherd, Gunther III in 1992. Her trustees invested the money and tripled the fortune. When Gunther IV was born, he officially became the wealthiest dog alive. It has been reported that his fortune has grown to more than $372 million.

I would do my best to give the dog a nice long happy healthy natural life.

I would feel obliged to care for the dog, or at least see he was well cared for by somebody until the end

The dog would be safe with me to live out the remainder of his days. Like CeeCee commented about the beautiful house she would buy him I might have to put in a hot tub in the dogs later years should he develop arthritis and of course I would be in there with him so he doesn't drown.

I would lovingly care for the dog and see to it that he had the best care and a comfortable life with me. He already will be grieving the loss of his owner, and I would try to fill that void for him. I feel that people should be able to do whatever they wish with their saved money. If I hated dogs, I would place him in the care of someone who absolutely loved them and would treat him very gently and kindly. I happen to love animals, that wouldn't be the case with me. Only a very selfish and cold person would hasten the death of this innocent pet.

As a life long dog lover,I would lovingly take care of him/her for the rest of their life. After the dog is gone,I would challenge in court where the remaining money in the estate would go. I would hope the money goes to a reliable charity such as ASPCA,or any other org that helps our pets. Sue
