What you can do to prevent Alzheimer's Disease

Thanks Nathan. I lost my aunt to AD when I was a child, and it's always in back of my mind now that I am old. I always expected to have some memory loss in my old age, but Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, very sad.

Scientists in Australia have recently discovered an additional factor that may be responsible for the development of this neurodegenerative condition. Lead study author Dr. John Mamo, Ph.D. — distinguished professor and director of the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute at Curtin University in Perth, Australia — explained to Medical News Today the conclusion from the new research.

He said, “To find new opportunities to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s, we need to understand what actually causes the disease, and presently that is not established.”

“This study,” he added, “shows that exaggerated abundance in blood of potentially toxic fat-protein complexes can damage microscopic brain blood vessels called capillaries and, thereafter, leak into the brain, causing inflammation and brain cell death.”…….

We must get a cure for this, it's affecting so many people.

Family history is not necessary for an individual to develop Alzheimer’s. However, research shows that those who have a parent or sibling with Alzheimer's are more likely to develop the disease than those who do not have a first-degree relative with Alzheimer’s. Those who have more than one first-degree relative with Alzheimer’s are at an even higher risk. When diseases like Alzheimer's and other dementias tend to run in families, either genetics (hereditary factors), environmental factors — or both — may play a role.

So many people whose relatives have succumbed to this awful disease are living in fear of what might happen to them and my short term memory is shot to bits and I'm only 76.

Everything has a price and IMO Alzheimer’s may be the price of our increased longevity.

I hope that I’m able to slip away without being warehoused for several years.

the statistical probability of developing any neurodegenerative disease increases as we continue to age.

one of the things that I fear most, is losing my faculties and the ability to advocate for myself and being warehoused...
