What you can learn from a dumb animal.

For a quarter of a century, every spring. I've seen a few deer come down the path in my backyard , with several fawns. I watch the deer get bigger and healthier, till November. November is hunting season. Winter rolls in, and there are just two deer left. At least they had a friend. (But I've seen how the deer look when hunters haven't thinned the herd.- fur falling off, wounds, ribs showing.) Yesterday, we had a huge snow storm. By my picnic table the snow was waste deep. This morning, there was only one deer making its way through the deep snow. Somehow, my problems seem trivial.
I don't know I just had to write this.

We recently had a small bear in our back yard.
The game camera got some good pictures.

What we saw made us realize the bear was sick.
It had mange which is caused by mites that borrow beneath the the skin.
Nothing could be done to help it,

Must have wandered off & died,, haven't seen it for 2 - 3 weeks.

As for the deer you see,,most probably have taken shelter under pine / spruce trees.

The snow is dug up in our lawn where the deer pawed down to the grass.
