What's the most embarrassed you have ever been?

I hope nobody minds if I necropost to this. I see necroposting is frowned on by most forums.

I usually can never think of an answer to this sort of question, but the following incident recently came to mind and prompted me to search for a thread on this topic, and voila!

I think the most embarrassed I have ever been was this. Several years ago, my father treated me and my three kids to a cruise with him and his wife. One night, as we were eating at one of the upscale restaurants onboard, his wife at one point actually snapped her fingers at our waiter to get his attention. I was mortified; so were my kids. I honestly wanted the floor to just open up and swallow me.

And goodness knows what the waiter was thinking! (Probably something along the lines of "Ugly American.")

once, long ago and far away, my future hb and his mother and myself went to a high class restaurant across from Watergate in DC to discuss our upcoming wedding with his mother. When the waiter appeared to take our orders, my (future) hb gave his order first and the waiter tried to hide his reaction.

I gave hb a discreet nudge under the table and all was fixred. His mother went first, then myself and then him.
