What's yer pain tolerance?

I thought mine was pretty high

Not that long ago I slugged thru a bout with shingles
Side of the head
More aggravating than hurtful
Took months

But

My last tooth cleaning
A deep cleaning...whoa

He asked if I wanted Novocain (or whatever is was)
Told him I'd pass

Oh, Mommy!

I think he enjoyed it a bit too much
Thought about grabbing his crotch and having a little tolerance contest

Anyway

Not gonna do that again in the near future

What's yer pain level?

I've been told by dentists it's pretty high. He was digging to get a broken tooth out & after 10 minutes, he said, "You're a good sport."

I also don't scare easily. I've had 3 TIA's (last one 28 years ago), & I just lay down for a couple of hours. I found it "interesting" that during one of them, I looked at a clock & couldn't tell time & didn't know what the numbers meant. I tried some reading, but when I got to some words like "The" & "And," & "After" I didn't know what they meant & couldn't pronounce them. One doctor I mentioned it to couldn't believe I didn't call 911. I smiled & said, "Well, I'm fine now, so....big deal."

My tolerance for pain is pretty high but when you add suffering it drops quickly.

If you break your leg doing something that you enjoy you experience pain but when you break your leg in an automobile accident or a mugging you tend to add suffering which seems to make the same level of pain much worse, it's a mind thing that I don't really understand but it's real.

Well, I live in pain almost every day... On very good drugs for them, or would never get out of bed without them. Broke my leg in 5 spots almost 3 years ago to the day, and it hurt, but the pain I suffer in my neck and shoulders from 10 years ago, causes me BIG pain every day. So to break my leg in 5 spots, I tolerated it, unless they moved me or my leg. Think it's pretty high... the tolerance...

Pain?
My favourite topic!!
Nobody knows the breadth and depth ..................

But on the subject of dentists gary. Remember dentists in the sixtees?
It was like visiting the Spanish Inquisition. And their various weapons of torture. Pliers to name just one. I acquired a real dentist phobia. These days it is much better. But it is surprising how harrowing a simple scale and clean can be.

thanks for sharing mike. sorry to hear that. have a whiskey or brandy for me.

I was in a lot of pain before I had my partial right knee surgery 15 yrs ago.
I had heard stories from different people, the day after you get out of bed, have your 1st session with the physical therapist would be terrible.I do remember lying on a table, she put an elastic band on my knee, asked me to pull it back as far as my knee could. It was painful but I tolerated it.
The older I get my pain level isn't as high as it once was but I deal with it Sue

I had a dentist try to upsell me to one of those. To the tune of $1200 bucks.

I switched dentists instead.

As for pain, the worst I ever had was with a kidney stone. I pretty much wimped out with that. I thought I was gonna die.

The Dentist office has become the new place for upsells. Every time I go they are always trying to push the deep scale cleaning on me. I had it done once and I doubt I'll ever do it again. It was too long of a process and I don't believe the benefits of it are anywhere near what they try to tell you they are. I used to like going the Dentist when I was a kid, but I dread it now to the point where I only go every few years.

As for pain tolerance, I guess mine is on the high side seeing I live with R/A joint pay everyday even with meds and I haven't killed anyone......................yet. I've recently had a bout with the shingles and yes it was painful as hell, but I've had worse.

Yeah, sharp pain, for a limited duration, ain't all that bad.
But hours? Not very nice.

Dentist and dental technicians have been telling me all of my adult life that if I don't floss more I'm going to lose all my teeth. One dental tech in the Air Force told me that I could lose all my teeth in "a matter of weeks" if I didn't start flossing better. Well here it is 50 years later and I still have them all. A year or two back my hygenist tried to talk me into coming in three times a year for cleaning instead of two so I wouldn't lose my teeth. I told her "I'm 70 years old, realistically I don't really need them to last me all that much longer".
