Maslow's idea of self-actualization has been commonly interpreted as "the full realization of one's potential" and of one's "true self." A more explicit definition of self-actualization according to Maslow is "intrinsic growth of what is already in the organism, or more accurately of what is the organism itself ... self-actualization is growth-motivated rather than deficiency-motivated."ā This explanation emphasizes the fact that self-actualization cannot normally be reached until other lower order necessities of Maslow's hierarchy of needs are satisfied.

Most adults are life long mired down in the lower pyramid levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs with few reaching or even being aware of a level of self-actualization including those rich, including those famous.
Despite what adults if questioned might blurt out tersely about "purpose of life", few have the psychology or philosophical education to provide anything but shallow responses. That is in part because most people rarely if ever think about such deep questions. Despite likely denying such, most are riding along on the familiar popular train heading to the land of wealth, oblivious to any other possible goals beyond a bit of fun and amusement $$$ pays for. Forever striving for the almighty buck $$$ and dreaming about the junk and experiences it can buy. And each time they get a chunk, it goes into buying stuff or playing with it...as like at a casino or stock market...
I have spent my life helping both people and animals. I am not just talking professionally but also in my personal life. I know that I have made a small difference to the ones I have helped.
I like to think that some of the things I did in my job, especially in dispatch or detectives, made a difference. It may have been at that moment & then it may not, but somewhere down the road from that time. I hope that makes sense.
