When did you last find yourself saying to a younger person' back in my day........?'

To tech reps at Apple, Verizon and Netflix when I have a glitch. I usually tell them that I started out with a little radio in my bedroom before there was TV...

I had an Emerson five tube superheterodyne. It was great at night to listen to shows like Inner Sanctum in the small glow of the dial...

I try *really* hard not to do that. In fact the last such a conversation came up, a 30-something HVAC repair man told me he remembered back in the day when furnaces used to last longer than 10 years, and water heaters came with feet. Ha!

Yes, but sometimes I do let my grandchildren know what growing up was like in my day. Christmas is often one of those times because you can't help but wonder how we got to the point of spending so much and so little attention paid to the meaning of the day itself. It's definitely different.

Last month, at work, before I retired, to a younger co worker. Forgot exactly what I said, but it had to do with the lack of technology in my day...when no one walked around staring at their phones. The comment came just after he walked into a chair, and then a wall because he was not looking up.

It's been years, but a friend of mines daughter asked me once if it was true that they didn't have microwaves when I was a little girl. I told her, "Not only didn't we have microwaves, we didn't even have a VCR." She was absolutely flabbergasted, "No VCR??? No way! That was REALLY the olden days!" And now a lot of kids don't even know what a VCR is. Old technology.

I've never said that. I remember how much I used to hate that when I was young. "Back in the old days, we used to WALK to school in the snow, and we didn't have new boots.. yada yada yada. " So I reminisce with other adults but never to younger people. They wouldn't care. I understand.

I try not to, but when my son or daughter complain about something I can't resist. If they are having a problem programing the TV set or whatever, I can't resist telling them about trying to get good reception with the rabbit ears on top of the TV set. My daughter was complaining about how dusty her basement was, just had to tell her what it was like with a coal bin down ther especially after delivery day.
