I am sure people have noticed the upward spiral to the cost of beef. Current average price per pound of ground beef in the united states was 5.91 per pound in may. But guess what folks…it will not get better anytime soon.
Cattle on feed numbers are the lowest since the 1970’s. Twelve year drought…sending heifers to market rather than keeping as replacements and age of producers driving market. Cattle slaughter numbers are 6.9 percent less for year totals from 2024 to 2025…so far. Super high prices send more cattle to market and accelerate the trend.
May I suggest pork?

My husband and I don't eat much red meat anymore, mostly chicken, fish & yes - pork.

I'm scared they are going to make it all in a Petri dish one of these days, and I'll have to give it all up!

Our food supply is being "consolidated" and I don't think it's a good thing. I go to the local farmers market every week, and try my best to support small farms as much as I can.
