The eye problem is one thing, but all of a sudden I was tone deaf as well. I was watching the news and the sound completely stopped. I was sure I had hit the mute button in error, but that wasn't it! My cable company had to reboot me and what a relief it came back on. A Sunday afternoon is very boring w/o a bit of TV, but being unable to hear it was a fright as well.

Scary senior moment, for sure!!! Strange how we always think it's "us". :distress:

Talking about a scary moment. We were in church one Sunday, going back some years now, hubby was reading from the hymn book the next thing he could only see with one eye, I noticed him getting agitated so I asked what was wrong, when he turned to me I could see one of the lenses had come out of his glasses, when I told him it was relief all round, he thought he was going blind.

That made me laugh, Fern, and I can so relate.

Scary moment . . . turned hilarious.

Last night, I woke up around 2 AM and I heard faint voices talking. I lay there in the dark and I listened... I soon discovered it was one of those lengthy, never ending adds for a steam-mop.

I looked at the bedroom TV and it was turned off. I then got out of bed and tracked the sound down to the TV... yep, the one that was turned off.

I found the remote control, pressed the on/off button twice and the sound ceased.
No... I didn't have a late night tot nor do I do drugs.

Maybe Mulder can help me !

Here's something quite strange....at times, I hear muffled voices when there's a fan on. Sometimes I could swear there's someone living in the crawl space. Once, I heard a group of people talking, and another time, while visiting my Mom, with the stove hood fan on, I heard a bluegrass song. She was sleeping, and I was reading in the kitchen.

Bet no one can top that.

Although - years ago, when Art Bell had his message board, I had joined for a while, and that topic came up...I was not the only one who heard voices in fans. Obviously, that was kind of a relief. ;)

Anne....Did you ever listen to Art's reverse speech programs? Talk about weird. When someone's words are played backwards, all kinds of different meanings are heard.

I have also heard distant voices when isolated and no one is around. Has not happened recently, but as a youngster if happened quite often. And Terra, your story with the TV is scary.

I think those damned commercials are meant to stay in your head long after they're aired...

Yes, I did hear some of those on Art's show, Pappy. Some of it sounds so clear it's kind of spooky!!! Also, remember the rumor that Paul McCartney was dead?? They would play one or some of his songs backwards, and it sounded like "Paul is dead", and different references to him being gone....strange.

Terrose , maybe these electronics aren't really 'off' sometimes if all of the buttons aren't shut off?? Seems to me that we have had that experience at times, but you don't hear it unless it's absolutely quiet in the house.

I've heard my name called, too. Maybe we're all just slightly crazy??? J/K ;)

Without question, you have fan ghosts! (wink!) Don't worry, they're harmless. I have experienced it many times, sounds just like someone talking....only when my floor fan is on. I have central a/c, but I'm addicted to the sound of a fan to sleep and use one every night. Honestly, what I hear sometimes sounds like a conversation, but when I turn the fan off, it goes away. Tricky lil buggers, they are.

That is very weird! Far more weird than losing my sound with the TV on! Those damned commercials are determined to be heard.

Those ads are designed to get at you any way they can, a few ads here in Australia have guys that tend to yell instead of speaking normally, one ad in particular is Body Trim, i reckon he could be heard even when the TV is off, any time an ad using a person who yells i change channels.
Can't say i have ever had voices from the TV, maybe the extreme Tinnitus i suffer from blocks them out.

I've experienced most of the above at one time or other. Spent 10 minutes trying to find the radio I'd left turned on somewhere the other night but once all were accounted for I could still hear murmuring voices. It was 2 blokes having a yarn in the park next door on their way home from the pub before they parted ways. duh!

More than once I was out of bed and halfway up the hall to answer Mum calling out my name before it hit me that she was actually about 2 kilometres away in the aged care units. I've wondered had she had died would I have presumed she was 'haunting' me? It was very real, and very loud. But it didn't actually happen, the mind plays strange games.

After we moved from Sydney we both 'heard' the old house's front doorbell ring in the new house occasionally at night. Just a coincidental conversation brought that particular weirdness to light. We were both convinced that we were the only one who's mind was playing tricks. ... it gets worse! Sometimes, thankfully rarely, it still wakes me! I never think of the old house and haven't heard that bell for over 13 years...so why still that damned old doorbell??

Staying late at the office where I first worked was always a tad spooky. Gradually the silence would be replaced with all the usual day to day clatter and chatter as if everyone was still there only very much quieter. It wasn't scary, just very strange, and I never asked if anyone else experienced it.

I have one of those musical stove hoods too. It plays the bagpipes every time a Southerly is blowing.
