White cake mix to chocolate cake mix

Back in the olden days, I wouldn't have dreamed of using a cake mix. That was then; this is now

I have a white cake mix but need a chocolate cake mix. Chef Extraordinaire Google says all I need to do is add 1/4 cup of cocoa to the white cake mix.

Hm. Stand by. I'll let y'all know if it works.

It works just fine! Yay.

I wanted to know because if there's a chocolate Jiffy cake mix, I sure haven't been able to find one. It's for a dump cake.

Another handy idea if you're making a Jiffy mix dump cake is to melt a stick of butter and add it to the cake mix. Mix in well. It works better than putting pats of butter over the top because the pats don't always melt well enough to cover all of the cake mix and you can end up with bits of cake mix that don't bake up.

Yeah. I'm telling you the hacks so you don't have to hunt them up.

I don’t bake enough to maintain a well stocked pantry.

These days I rely on small packages of Bisquick type baking mixes and improvise when making quick breads, muffins, pancakes, etc…

I was reading somewhere that improvements are easily made to box cake mixes by using butter instead of oil and adding an extra egg or egg yolk.
