Who is in charge of the finances in your home?

I handle bills but all bigger decisions are made jointly.
Same here; but since Huzz is clueless about doing finances and doesn't want to learn, I dread to think about if I'm no longer able to do it (or do it correctly), we'll be in big trouble.

In any relationship, one party is more equipped to handle the finances. That better be the person who is doing it.
That seems to be the way it is in too many relationships but shouldn't be; as I pointed out above, what happens if something happens to the one doing it? And especially if you don't have any kids willing or able to do it for you?

Well it is only me now, but I was in charge of finances my whole married life.

My husband was not good with money. If he saw something he was ready to buy it. I had to teach him about researching products and different vendors.

He always felt he had to have a couple of hundred in his wallet. I would carry 2 dollars. Mind you, I cooked at home, there were always leftovers for work lunches. I always had a credit card for emergencies.

I was married to an accountant for 18 years. When we got married neither of us had debts. I told her that if she took care of paying things, It would be my job to make sure there was always enough money to pay them. That would never be her problem. I was lucky she was a penny pincher and disliked having to shop.
A woman who does not like to shop is a very rare specimen. How did you catch her? If there ever was a 'type' to marry she was it. You were a lucky man.

Agreed. No matter how much relevant experience and education one might have wrt to "household finances" we all have our blind spots that another person can help us navigate.

While my wife and me could never share the daily mechanical efforts to "pay the bills" and despite her far superior financial background, that didn't exempt me from the responsibility to gain the knowledge and be aware of the circumstances and methods to achieve our goals.
