Who Says We Should Decide Things Based On Our Age?

Had a kid tell me, the other day, that my new (used) car is not a proper fit for an old man. I need to be driving a sedan or old truck, he said.... I feel that our age should never determine our choices (unless the choice could throw out my back) and would love to be a fly on the wall when that kid is over 60. Now, I have loved, and owned, sports cars all my life. Even though I have to use a cane when I walk, my butt can fly with a leather seat and a gas pedal... What decisions have been made for you that were age related and how did you put that person in their place? Any old folks here feel that this car does not fit an "old guy?

Since I've been an adult, no one has made any decisions for me. People can (and will) drive what they like.

That said, I know of some women who make a particular comment when they see an old man driving a sports car. The comment is: "Sorry about your p3n1$."

That's funny! This guy who owned a custom $100,000 motorcycle came out of "Hill's and Dale's" tavern in San Antonio to find a giant condom encasing the bike.... Never laughed so hard....

That's a nice car Haunted, I don't see why it wouldn't fit anyone of any age. I don't think too many of us here fit the typical stereotypes of "old people". If a young punk tried to tell me what to drive, wear or anything else, I think I could pretty much think of something to put him in his place.

Young people just hate to see old people who can do things better than them and enjoy life at the same time with more money to boot and probably the young people will never see it again as it happened . Their main concern is legalization of marijuana like that's going to improve your lifestyle somehow? The pensions are astronomical due to unions. Although I was never a member , I wish I was now that I am older and see what my friends are bringing in.

There's a song isn't there? 'Too late baby".

It's just a car. I don't see how a style of motor vehicle has anything to do with a person's age or anything else about a person.

No, so far no one has said anything to me like that.

My husband flies around in an old restored Mustang and so far no problems in the bedroom. I have heard that about a guy getting something nice (big boat, sports car, Harley etc) to compensate for sex problems but I've always figured it was just jealousy talking. And I've heard as many men say things like that as I have women.

At our house we don't let age determine what we own or don't own. With us, it's our pocketbook. I notice our children all encourage us to keep buying and doing whatever we want. I think they are afraid if we just sit around we'll get senile and maybe have to go live them one of them. :playful:

I've never seen any astronomical pensions, maybe I'm missing something. I've seen a number of people who have lost their pensions, though, through collapse of pension funds or collapse of companies.

Where I live there were paper mills which were the backbone of the economy. All unionized.

Anyone working in a paper mill in the old days is drawing a big pension when they retired because the company contributed as well as the employee.

Collapse of pension funds.? Collapse of companies.? Unheard of in those days of wealth and prosperity.

Young people are not ever going to see that again when the focus is on the environment as the expense of prosperity.

Astronomical pensions? I'll have to check mine again. Last deposit was a long, long way from astronomical.

Joke among Harley owners...why do we see so many old people riding Harleys? Because we're the only ones who can afford them! Believe me, it's not due to astronomical union pensions.

hauntedtexan,

I too like sports cars, one of the reasons is that you get
a great seat and as I have a damaged back, I need all the
support I can get from a seat.

The car that I have at the moment is a Renault Laguna SPT,
(Sport Privilege Tourer) and is is an estate car/station wagon,
but it goes very quickly and comfortably.

Mike.

When I was working in that business it was common to see older men buying sports roadsters that they couldn't afford when they were young.

A year and a half ago I bought a blue convertible. Sometime later our daughter bought a blue convertible, and she is only 53.

Of course we should decide things based on our age as long as the decision is ours and not some one else's. Like Clint Eastwood said in "Dirty Harry "A MAN'S GOTTA KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS" At age 82 I no longer Scuba Dive or Bungy Jump in fact. I can't play golf any more.
