Who's side would you be on?

Person A inherits a 10 acre parcel of undeveloped land that had been purchased 20 years ago by A's parents from A's mother's brother.

Fast forward to today. Person B, child of that uncle (A's cousin), now wants to buy the land back, but says will only pay what was paid for it 20 years ago. A agrees to sell but wants today's fair market value which is 5 times what was paid and refuses to compromise. B buys land for asking price, but never speaks to A again as well as turning everyone on that side of the family against A.

Who do you think was wronged in this situation?

Person A was wronged, in my view. Person B was unreasonable and selfish, trying to(and apparently succeeding to) manipulate family opinion and use that as a weapon; that is evil, I've had that happen to me, in a different circumstance.

Assuming the original transaction between A's parents and A's Uncle was an arms-lengths, fair market value, no future commitment deal, then B is amiss in this. It would be interesting to know why B thinks he is the injured party.

I agree. Person B has no right to expect person A to sell the property at 20-years-ago value. Why would anyone in their right mind sell property at a value from 20 years ago? Person B can't go back and undo a property sale from 20 years ago, which is basically what person B wanted to do.

Person A was wronged, I would be on their side. It was selfish and unreasonable for Person B to expect to buy the land at 20 year old value/price. The fact that Person B then proceeded to shun Person A and turn the family against them after the purchase is very unfair.
