Who's the most famous person you've ever met?

I used to worh for a Sports Memorabilia company as a receptionist. I met a lot of athletes who were coming in to sign baseballs, etc. A few memorable ones were: Yogi Berra, Mariano Rivera, some of the 1969 Jets team players. I was lucky enough to get the players to autograph the 1969 flag I had for years with their picture stapled to it! They were so friendly. I have a photo of me taken with Yogi Berra and one with Mariano Rivera. I feel so blessed.

The mayor of my town. That's it.

Huge edit: I met Carl Yastremski and Ted Williams!!!!! And I got their autographs which were lost years ago. 😪 They came to the local gas station in my town.

President Ronald Reagan in West Berlin, June 1987.

Well, not really. But he did pass by me by about 5 yards during an honor guard at Tempelhof Central Airport. Does that count? (I'm the guy in the front of the band at the left front rank.)

From here Reagan went to the Brandenburg Gate where he extolled the General Secretary of the Soviet Union, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this Wall!"

Kind of similar here: When Reagan was campaigning for his 2nd term as governor, he gave a short speech at a place I worked in Sunnyvale, Calif.; I was about 30 feet away from him.

My late husband worked for a major health agency for 35 years. They often had celebrities speak at their meetings so I got to meet a lot of them. One I recall was an opera singer named Marguerite Piazza who came in a full length white fur coat. At an after-party the coat was laid out on a bed and when it was time to go the family dog had to be quietly scooted off the coat. Don't tell anybody!

I know this is incredibly dumb, but I worked for a non-profit and I used to entertain my boss by doing a comedic impression of Ted Kennedy.

Just for a joke. I actually liked and respected Ted Kennedy and the Kennedy family.

But it was one of my favorite impressions to do...
You're right about that. I lived in Hollywood for two stretches from '68--'84, first in Laurel Canyon, then in Hollywood on Cherokee Ave. You never knew who you'd run into.

I stood in line at the grocery story behind Jimmie "Dyn-o-mite" Walker of Good Times. Danny Kaye one time pulled up beside me in his limo to ask where the nearest pay phone was. I sat right next to Bob Hope and his manager in the next booth at Musso & Franks one night. Steve Landesberg was there as well.. Another night I was eating with a local video director. We noticed Roger Ebert sitting nearby. When he noticed my friend, he waved very warmly.

But my biggest thrill was meeting Muhammad Ali at Louie St. Pierre's Magic Shop on Hollywood Blvd. Ali was crazy about magic, so he'd stop into the store when he was in town. I saw Ali's 2-tone brown limo parked in front of the store in a no parking zone, so I walked in to check it out. Several people were wanting to shake his hand. When it was my turn, he stuck out his hand, and I shook it, but I was stumped for something to say, so I just said "You're the greatest". Dumb.

That was the perfect thing to say. Not dumb a all.

Jimmie Rogers, the singer (Honeycomb & Kisses Sweeter Than Wine). He was the entertainment on a ship. Oops, the other half of this post is a few posts up above. That's okay. Too hard to find.

I am impressed with the capabilities on so called famous persons. 'But if I listen long enough, I find them boring'.
I have gone to many Concerts' Comedy Clubs, Watched White Christmas and most everything else. Danced to most
All Live Band Concerts except Woodstock. Was within 10 miles but the traffic and all seemed to be boring. Remember
Most all of New York at the Concert in the park. You’re probably thinking of the legendary concert by Garth Brooks in Central Park! On August 7, 1997, Garth Brooks performed a free concert in Central Park, New York City, which was dubbed “Garthstock” as a nod to Woodstock12. This event drew an estimated audience of over 1 million people, making it one of the largest concerts ever held in the park1. You know he said, he sounds the same when he does his own music, so he plays other writers' music mostly.

So, I guess I am famous enough to me, for me. I met Mell Tillis too. "Your Quite the Lil boy"!. TWIS ... That's what I said. ... :coffee: ...

My wonderful Congressman, Jamie Raskin. We get lots of politicians speaking here at our meetings, especially when they are running for office.
But Jamie comes as often as he can, just to keep us informed.

Also, when I lived in WA state, I met Jay Inslee, who is now the governor of that state.

1. In the late 80’s: George Christie, ex president of The Hells Angels during a portion of time Sonny Barger was in prison. A gentleman, very smart, surprisingly easy to talk to.

2. 2004?: Jessie James, custom motorcycle builder who actress Sandra Bullock married and divorced. Arrogant. Too all up in himself to be nice to anyone who didn’t have something he needed.

I've actually 'run into' quite a few celebs. The most famous and overwhelming was Barbra Streisand at a Howard Johnson's in Tarrytown NY. I acted like a lovestruck fan (I was). Many years later, I wrote and published a story about it.

Also met Keith Richards in Woodstock where the Stones threw a party for Charlie Watts's birthday; Ed Asner at the first National Writers Union meeting in NYC; Doris Lessing, who autographed my book; Robert Kennedy, whose hand I shook as he passed in a motorcade on Fifth Avenue when he was running for Senator of NY; Chevy Chase, who performed at a place where I worked; Richie Havens; Bill Kunstler; John Sebastian; Patti Smith; and many writers whose readings I attended.

What I wouldn't give to meet Mariano Rivera!

Great guy, Jamie Raskin. He wrote a memoir of campaigning for a congressional seat and his son's suicide, which coincided.
