why are flags at half-staff today?

When I went past the bank this afternoon, I noticed the flags outside were at half-staff. Didn't see any reference to this in local or national news. Might anyone here know the reason?

Yes, I think that's the reason. I saw it mentioned on the news yesterday.

Are those the pylons that are located on Century Boulevard and lead to the airport and change colors? I think they are made of large glass tubes aren't they?

Never mind, Falcon, I just Googled and found out that those are the same pylons that I was referring to. Those lights are beautiful at night and early in the morning when we would take the shuttle from the hotel to the airport at about 4:30 a.m.

Do you know if United has finished their half billion dollar makeover of their concourse at LAX?

No OM, I haven't read or heard of anything about their concourse.

I did a little investigating and found out that United's commitment to LAX by doing a makeover of their concourse has started and is already nearing completion, or at least this is what I have been told. I was also informed that other airlines are following United's lead and redoing their concourse as well. The last time that I had the opportunity to walk around inside LAX's United concourse, which was just two years ago, it looked old and dated and was in bad need of an updating. I also was told that the new concourse will have several hi tech charging stations available.

Now, if we can just get them to smooth out their runways and cut down on the number of taxiways that they have. I always enjoyed flying into LAX, but Chicago O'Hare (ORD) still remains my favorite, even though it's the busiest. As for ATC's go, I pick JFK and Newark in New York City as the best ATC's.
