Why did these women suddenly remember my name and greet me?

I hang out from time to time at a Friday night get together at the senior center. There is some music, sometimes live, non-alcoholic drinks, food, and lots of places to sit, stand and talk to others. Normally the ladies do not notice me very much. If they do, they don’t know my name or don’t say much to me.

Yesterday, a female neighbor of mine asked me if she could tag along and see what the senior center was like. So we arrived together and I introduced her to a few buddies of mine. There was nothing romantic or snuggly going on between us. I treated her like one of the guys.

What happened next astounded me. In the next 30 minutes three gals I know from the senior center who usually don't’ pay much much attention to me or seem to never remember my name, made a point of greeting me with a big Hello Brookswood .

I was gobsmacked!!!

Were they responding to me? Or to the woman I happened to walk in with?

i am a senior who works at a senior center. there are some people who just are always alone and i think most would like to be approached but don't know how to make it happen. I go out of my way to greet them by name and they know mine because i wear a nametag and they always say hello back. i think, because you came in with someone, people realized you were approachable. instead of another lonely senior, people realized you were somebody we should get to know.
