Why did window wings go away on cars?

Window wings worked great. Simple and effective, I miss them.

I actually googled it and came up with some moron who probably never saw them saying the noise level was too high and the seals caused a problem and leaked. No more than driving today with windows down and present days window seals will eventually leak as they age.

Another example of past technologies that are dismissed as outdated even though they worked great

Probably profit driven. Leaving those parts off saved a bit on the cost of building each vehicle but volume makes it a tidy sum over years of production.

Wing windows were great when I was a smoker or on rainy days, I miss them.

My thought is that it was simply a cost cutting measure that has probably been justified with all sorts of engineering and scientific mumbo jumbo.

Just a guess would be because of fewer smokers, it allowed the auto manufacturers to save a few bucks. With almost all cars now having a/c, getting a little air can be obtained by just adjusting the amount of air the driver wants inside the auto.

Maybe because of the rise of AC being used in cars?

I knew them as vent windows.... never heard the term window wings.

I bet that, along with the rise of air conditioning, fuel efficiency has a lot to do with it!

I'm sure it has something to do with automakers wanting to design cars with lower coefficients of drag. This leads to better fuel economy, better handling/acceleration and higher top speeds.
