Why short shorts in 10 degree weather

I live near a university campus and was driving down the main street today when I noticed a college girl wearing short shorts.
It's 10 degrees today and a very brisk north wind.
She was walking down the street, had on a winter coat, scarf and gloves....and shorts. I see this alot through out the winter, both college girls and boys.

It must be a fad...it must be "the thing to do" or the "Cool" thing to do.
What else would explain it?
lol this bothers me....I need to get a life.

Just like the teens in Boston who are jumping out of second-story windows, with only his underwear on, into the snow or the dude that ran out of the door to his house and jump into a snow bank......wearing only underwear!

I thought we done some absolutely CRAZY things when we were their age, but I think they are beating us in doing the CRAZY stuff!

I see that here in Chicago, but it's usually the 30ish Yuppy males... in their little jogging shorts and hoodies... with bright red wind bitten legs... lookin' all cool.. lol!!

ha ha ha...wind bitten legs is right! Yup, sounds fun to me!

"lol this bothers me....I need to get a life." says Marty. I guess that being the case we all do! My theory about the coeds and their shorts, they are looking for admiring glances from the boys.

10 C is like -12 C which is what we've been having here lately. Haven't seen any idiots wearing shorts here though.
The only thing I can think of is that these kids are too lazy to change into long pants and are darting in and out of buildings.

Other than when I have to change for an event of some kind I wear shorts or lightweight sweat pants. Mostly shorts here in Arizona.

Years ago when I was a lot younger, girls wore "Mini Skirts",
those that did wear them all the year ended up with fat legs
as their bodies tried to protect itself from the winter cold.

Shorts in 10 degree weather. Sounds like a fashion hipster to me. I've seen it before. The gym rats are the worst because they got to show what they think is their fabulous body. I've seen people in moderate climates like Florida wear long sleeves, pants, gloves and sweaters the second it drops below 70 degrees. Fashionistas.

People who don't dress for the environment probably don't or never had to work in such environment for any length of time. Some are just stupid. Some depend on artificial environments 24/7 with no medical condition-puddy cats.

I will say if you can keep you core temperature/internal organs at 98.6 the body will share the wealth/release the blood to the extremities(would only work so long) That's why surfers and divers frequently where half suits in warm weather or Caribbean.

What would happen if that person in shorts got locked out of their car or house?

OMG-is that why my legs are fat??!!?? Why didn`t anybody ever warn me???

For years there has been a debate wether swimming in cold water burnt the same amount of calories as one does in warmer water. If the body in truly shocked or affected by the cold it will go into survival/ conservation mode slowing the metabolism to conserve calories. Some say the energy needed to keep warm still burns the calories. I guess it's the temperature that affects you.

I've always heard fat or calories burn best like most other things in the presence of heat and oxygen.

That sounds like a great combination of cold and hot. The cold is stimulating, and the clothes keep them from getting too cold.

Just when I was beginning to run out and purchase some short shorts you bring me back to reality. Thanks!
