Will time travel ever be possible?

I wonder if any scientists are looking into the possibility of going backwards and forwards in time? At present it looks like a very fanciful notion, but in the past the idea of humans landing on the moon would have seemed impossible too. If time travel did become a reality would posters on this forum wish to avail themselves of the opportunity to visit the past or future? I think I would be interested in the future, not so much the past.

I have often told my wife that given how far society has come in the last 100 years, I would like to see how far we will have come in another 100 years.

Wouldn't it be fun?
I don't want to see the future, but going back would be fun but only within certain bounds, for safety.

I would like to visit the future, especially if travel to other planets and star systems becomes feasible. One a more immediate note...I would like to see a few days into the future, and get the winning Powerball numbers.

well, if you cross the international dateline from west to east. you go in to yesterday, and east to west - wow, its tomorrow already.
might be interesting to see the past or future like a movie, but if it would be possible to change the bad events for good, I wouldn't want it to be possible to change the good for bad, like the wrong side winning wars.

Theoretical physicists like the late Stephan Hawking and present day Michio Kaku are among many dedictiong their lives to the futre and trying to understand what are the fabrics of the universe. Read "Physics Of The Future" by Michio Kaku. It is packed with mind blowing predictions of what the future holds.

I hope not.

Every time a person made one seemingly insignificant change to the past or the future it would disrupt the entire world.

Imagine if they somehow made a major change like eliminating wars or changing the outcome of wars.

If someone was able to change the past I might not be sitting here typing this post! :):playful::eek:nthego:

Both, but more the future than the past. I would like to know that my children would be doing well, and I could die and not be worried.

Yeah. that's 'fun reading' for me, especially as I read very little besides Sci-Fi which of course, is full of these ideas. Then, there is today. Climate change, pollution, failing infrastructure, war, famine, immigration, 65+ million displaced people in the world, too much debt by most countries and too many people needing resources that are not there, and on and on.................
I don't think many people will make it to the future, as nothing is getting better, as far as I can see.

I've done my share of time traveling

just mental, but as long as memory serves, I'm there

Still, the present, fleeting as it is, has its value

If in the 1950s you asked "Will we ever be able to make
a phone call from a device our pocket"?

The answer would have been a resounding NO WAY!

So anything is possible.

Mike.

Wasn't that done in "Back To The Future II?"

I think time travel is possible now. Is anyone doing it? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if I found out it is. And what is that old time painting that some people claim one of the people are holding a cell phone? :playful: A lot of people claim time doesn't exist. Some say we are on a loop and everything is happening at the same time. I don't know but I like listening to people who know more than I do talk about it.

I wouldn't want to see into the future to far because what if it is something that would depress, sadden or frighten me? I'd much rather look into the past. If I could take my husband with me I'd like to head back 40 or 50 years. If I had to go alone, I'd like to go back for centuries and meet up with my relatives. I would want to be invisible if I was going back in time. I don't need any creepy cavemen chasing me around for some lovng!

Going back in time would be no fun for two reasons: 1: You have wisdom teeth. 2: You have syphilis. :eek:mg1:

What do you mean you have syphilis?? Everyone in the past didn't have syphilis. And we have wisdom teeth now too, unless you are like me and had them put you to sleep and take all 4 of them out. They had dentists back in the past too. They just had a different means of putting you to sleep. Give you a few swings of whiskey and a good knock on the head with an iron skillet. That wasn't so bad was it?:sentimental:

People have wisdom teeth, but few had syphilis, unless they slept around as it is asexually transmitted disease!
