Wireless calls and spoofed phone numbers

Do you get calls from phone numbers saying "Wireless call" but you know it's a land line number? I got one last night but I didn't answer. The number was a landline number but it clearly states "Wireless call" and this number was from my neighbor. Now I realize she could be using the same number on her cell phone as she does on her landline but she never left a message nor has she called back today. I can't help but suspect it was a scammer spoofing her number. Do you get them like this?

Yes, we get a lot of spoofed numbers. Just this week, the phone rang and displayed MY cell phone number as the caller. My cell phone was laying right on my desk and obviously not calling. GRRRRRR

We get sooooo many ..... just a few digits off of our real phone number. I Keep blocking them and they keep trying with slightly different numbers. It's a never ending battle.

I use "nomorobo" on my phone. It's free for landlines and our carrier (AT&T) works with them. They have a database of spoof/spam/telemarketers they work from. If one of the "pests" on their list call me , I have my phone set up to transfer the call to them .My phone will ring once ,call is sent to them & they get a recording . If you want to read about them .... here's the link. It's really nice - I'm happy with it !

The spammers have found a way to allow caller ID to show a valid phone number, and they can change the number that shows frequently. This is just another example of how the crooks are always one step ahead of the laws.

This number "claimed" it was a "wireless number" but I know it isn't. It is a land line number calling from a cell phone. Do you get these also?

“Wired” magazine published an article last year that said the FCC had a meeting with the telecom giants and told them they needed to stop letting people use spoofed numbers and they all agreed to form a task force to do it. I haven’t received any spoofed calls this year and last year I was receiving 3 or 4 a week. Here is the link to the article:

"...Hopefully the new rules adopted today (11/16/2017) by the FCC will help cut down on pesky robocalls, but because their effectiveness will depend on whether communications companies actually take advantage of them, that's far from guaranteed...."

I think some communications companies, e.g., AT&T, like robocalls on landline phones. I suspect they would love for everyone to get rid of their house phones. Too many real live employees are required for maintenance.

I get many spoofing the "248" of my land line exchange, and the "754" of my cell exchange. Even had a call come into my cell that indicated it was from my own number.
I had to have a chat with my doctor's office because I got a call from them, that I did not answer because it came through as "unknown name/unknown number" which I never answer. Only knew it was from them because they left a voice mail. They did change that and now it comes through with the name of the practice.

I'm another satisfied customer of NOMOROBO, my (landline) phone rings once, if the calling number is on their list, they pick it up and deal with the caller. If the number is not on their list, then my phone continues to ring and I then decide, based on if I recognize the number or caller, to answer or let it go to voicemail. NOMOROBO takes care of the majority of the calls which makes life a little sweeter than it was before nomorobo. No, I am not an employee of the service, just very happy with it and the fact that it's free doesn't hurt one little bit .

I get 4-8 "local" (spoofed) calls a day. I block the number, they change the number! It gets very frustrating because I count on my phone for business. If I keep blocking the "local" calls, then, sooner or later, I may be blocking the real people with that same number who are calling me for business.
