What are you doing today?
I have a staff meeting today and plan to take a resident shopping. I encourage independence among residents meaning I do not hover, nor do I lend assistance when they are capable of managing themselves.
People living with mental illness are like anyone else, although society and stigma would have people think differently. Most everyone have experienced mental illness symptoms in their lifetime and found relief in various types of treatment.
Ironically the mind and body are viewed separately while indeed they make up the whole person as one. As the Peer Guy real life experience provides personal insight to symptomatic behaviors associated with mental health / illness. In most cases symptoms come and go like a reoccurring cold or other sort term illnesses. I believe mental illness is treatable and people diagnosed with mental illness can live a happy and fulfilled life.
